On 11 September 2020, after talking with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Bahrain’s King Hamad, US President Trump took the lead in announcing on Twitter that "another historic breakthrough has been made." Within 30 days, Bahrain became the second Arab country to reach a peace agreement with Israel after the UAE.
US President Trump said, "In the spirit of peace and cooperation, the leaders of the two countries agreed that Bahrain will fully normalize diplomatic relations with Israel. They will establish each other’s embassies and send ambassadors to each other, start direct flights between the two countries, and conduct direct flights between the two countries. This is a truly historic day for cooperation with many sectors including commerce, technology, education, security and agriculture."
The United States, Bahrain and Israel stated in the three-nation joint statement that this historic breakthrough will promote further peace in the Middle East, promote positive changes in the Middle East, and enhance local stability, security and prosperity.
US President Trump: "This is just the beginning. There are still many things that will happen, and they will happen soon. Everyone wants to get involved, and they all want to join. I think this is the first time someone told me that this is for the first time in history, they have seen such a thing. They are eager to reach a (peace) agreement and want to join."
During the tripartite call, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and King Hamad of Bahrain expressed their deep gratitude to President Trump for his efforts to peace in the Middle East.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said, "We have worked hard for this for many years, but without the strong leadership of President Trump and his capable team, we will not achieve this historic moment. I want to thank them on behalf of the Israeli people. I believe this also represents many people in the Middle East and around the world."
The King of Bahrain has accepted the invitation of President Trump and will send the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the White House on 15 September to attend the signing ceremony of the Israeli-UAE peace agreement, and sign the Bahrain and Israeli peace declaration with Israel on the same day.
