Wu Zunyou, chief expert of epidemiology at the China CDC, said at the Beijing Epidemic Press Conference on 18 June 2020, "It is clear to everyone that the Beijing epidemic has been controlled. "but an anonymous member of the CCP National Health Commission's Infectious Diseases Expert Group told Chinese Philanthropist Magazine that Wu Zunyou's conclusion was "somewhat sloppy".
Wu Zunyou declared at the press conference on Thursday that "the epidemic has been brought under control". However, only 3 days ago, Wu Zunyou admitted that the Beijing epidemic was "unexpected and the situation was severe", and the market for the new source of the epidemic was large. It is a challenge to clear the epidemiological investigation.
An infectious disease expert group member of the National Health Commission, who asked not to be named, pointed out that Wu Zunyou’s assertion that he was “controlled” was “somewhat sloppy”. He believes that in the initial stage of the outbreak, the official announced the information of the diagnosed patients, including the date of onset, medical information, activity trajectory, etc., but now "maybe because of the (confirmed) number of people, these information cannot be seen."
The panelist pointed out that whether a cluster-like epidemic situation has been effectively controlled or not is not based on the number of diagnoses announced every day. "There are still new discoveries, which cannot be said to be completely under control. After all, this virus is too contagious."
He also emphasized that, regardless of the international or domestic environment, the CCP virus epidemic is not over yet, and it cannot be taken lightly.
Ning Yi, a Ph.D. from Harvard University and executive dean of the Zhongguancun Millenia Health Industry Research Institute, also said that it is not the time to relax, and the need to prevent the emergence of super communicators in the next two to three weeks.
The CCTV revealed on 19 June that Ditan Hospital had just added 1070 beds and transferred a lot of medical support from other hospitals but Beijing officials have only recently announced more than 100 people diagnosed.
