Continued flooding in southern China has expanded. On 22 June 2020, Chongqing continued to issue red flood warning alerts. The highest flood in the Qijiang River Basin in the upper reaches of the Three Gorges Dam since 1940 occurred. The highest water level of the Wucha Station in Qijiang reached 10 to 11 meters, and 40,000 local people were transferred urgently. In Guizhou, mountain floods broke into streets and turned into waterfalls. The flooding flooded farmland and houses. Six counties were submerged and people's lives were unknown.

Chongqing Hydrological Monitoring General Station issued a red flood warning at about 12 o'clock on the 22nd. Due to the impact of rainfall, it is expected that the entire line of floods will occur in the Chongqing section of the Qijiang River Basin within the next 8 hours by 5.7 to 6.3 metres, an increase of about 10 to 11 metres.

The People’s Daily of the Communist Party of China stated on Twitter that at 6.30 pm on 22 June, the maximum water level of Wucha Station reached 205.56 meters, exceeding the guaranteed water level of 5.05 meters, and exceeding the 1998 flood water level by 0.01 meters, the highest water level since the station was established.

This early warning is the first time that Chongqing Municipal Hydrological Monitoring Station has issued a red early warning of floods in Qijiang.

The live video posted on Jennifer Zeng Zeng Zheng @jenniferatntd shows that the highway along the Qijiang River in Chongqing was severely flooded by the rain that day, the rails were broken, and the gas stations and street lamp posts on the street were all submerged. The shops along Binjiang Road have also been flooded, and some houses in the old street of Guangxing Town have been flooded to the second floor. Local officials said they had evacuated 40,000 people urgently.

On 23 June, the China Weather Network issued the "strongest rainfall since flooding" rain warning to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River to Guizhou. It is expected that the rain will reach its peak from 22 to 23 to 24, and the current rain has swept Guizhou, Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Guangxi all need to strengthen disaster prevention.


On 21 June, CCTV reported that the water level in the Three Gorges Reservoir area has continued to rise, which has exceeded the flood control level by nearly 2 meters, and the water level is still rising. A dozen provinces in the lower reaches were hit by floods.

Meanwhile, severe disasters have been reported in Guizhou since 21 June. The heavy disasters in Zunyi and Tongren have accumulated a week of continuous rain, floods, landslides, hydropower and road interruptions. The streets of Guizhou have become waterfalls, a large number of vehicles and people After being washed away, the number of deaths is difficult to count.

The worst is that the water accumulated in the roads of Mugua Town is more than 4 meters, and a large number of people in the nearby Bajiao Town and other towns have been besieged by the flood, but Bajiao Town is paralyzed due to on-site communication. On 22 June, the Guizhou Meteorological Bureau continued to issue red warnings for rainstorms in Wuchuan County, Zheng'an County, Yanhe County and Tongzi County of the province. 13 counties under the jurisdiction of Zunyi City and Tongren City have issued yellow warnings.
