The US State Department released the 2020 human trafficking report on Thursday. Nearly 25 million people worldwide have been deprived of their fundamental freedoms. For the fourth consecutive year, China has been listed as one of the most serious countries for human trafficking. US Secretary of State Pompeo said that human trafficking is a global threat and the United States will not stand idly by.
In the " Trafficking In Persons Report" released by the US State Department on Thursday, 19 countries are classified as the third level, that is, the countries with the most serious human trafficking. The governments of these countries have permitted human trafficking to varying degrees.
The report specifically names 10 countries funded by the government or supporting human trafficking, including China, Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Russia.
The report pointed out that under the rule of the Communist Party of China, members of ethnic minorities and religious groups were detained and forced to work on a large scale, and law enforcement officers allowed or directly participated in sex slavery and forced labor, and thus benefited. The CCP government has not investigated, prosecuted or convicted law enforcement personnel of suspected crimes, and failed to meet the minimum standards for eliminating human trafficking.
Secretary of State Pompeo specifically mentioned the "Belt and Road" project promoted by the CCP at a press conference.
US Secretary of State Pompeo: "The Chinese Communist Party and state-owned enterprises often force citizens to work for the "Belt and Road" projects in harsh environments."
Pompeo emphasized that the United States will make unremitting efforts to release those who are still enslaved and punish those who enslave the people.
Pompeo said, "(The government should) protect human rights, not oppress human rights. The United States will not stand idly by, and any government that has a human trafficking policy or model will impose such oppression on its own people."
