The Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa announced on June 1 that the Ebola virus appeared again in the northwest of the country.

AFP reported that Congo is fighting a global covid pandemic and now another deadly disease is making a comeback, undoubtedly causing another blow to the country.

Democratic Republic of Congo Health Minister Eteni Longondo said that in an area in the northwestern city of Mbandaka, the Ebola virus has killed four people. Longondo said: "The National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) has confirmed to me that Mbandaka's samples tested positive for Ebola."

Mbandaka is the capital of Equateur Province and a transportation hub on the Congo River, with a population of over 1 million. An Ebola outbreak occurred in Equateur Province between May 2018 and July 2018, killing 33 people.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s turbulent eastern region has been ravaged by the Ebola virus since August 2018, killing 2,280 people. Officials had hoped to declare the end of the epidemic on June 25 this year. The condition was that there were no new cases for 42 consecutive days. The epidemic has been reproduced again, and the date of the end of the epidemic has to be postponed.

In addition, according to official data released on the 1st, there were 3,195 confirmed cases of pneumonia in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the capital Kinshasa accounted for 2,896 cases, and 72 deaths.

According to Wikipedia's description of the genus Ebola (scientific name: Ebolavirus), this virus is named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa, and refers to one of the genus viruses of the Filaviridae family, which can cause Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The disease can cause death, including several symptoms of varying degrees (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin color changes, body aches, internal bleeding, extracorporeal bleeding, fever, etc.). The viruses are very similar.

Ebola is a zoonotic virus. The main route of infection is through the patient’s body fluids, such as blood, sweat, vomit, excrement, urine, saliva, or semen. So far, no one has the ability to survive the outbreak. Animal host, currently believed that fruit bat is the possible original host of the virus.

Because of Ebola’s lethality, and because no vaccine has been proven to be effective, Ebola is classified as a biohazard class IV virus and is also regarded as one of the tools of bioterrorism.
