Zhi Min, Deputy Director of the Department of Gastroenterology, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, said on 29 August 2020 that ulcerative colitis is regarded as an important precancerous lesion of colon cancer if it cannot be cured for more than 10 years. However, early detection, early treatment, regular follow-up, ulcerative enteritis is not terrible.

On 28 August, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister's residence and said that for physical reasons, he decided to resign as Prime Minister. Abe said that in the regular physical examination in June this year, the doctor pointed out that the chronic disease ulcerative enteritis had recurrence symptoms, so he continued to work while taking the medicine. In July, he felt abnormal changes in his physical condition. In early August, he confirmed that the enteritis had recurred.

Zhi Min said that inflammatory bowel disease is divided into ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Ulcerative colitis is referred to as ulceration. Inflammation of the intestine involves the rectum and colon, and the lesions are mainly limited to the large intestinal mucosa and submucosa. The etiology is still unknown, and the mutual influence of genetic factors and environmental factors is considered to be the main cause of ulcerative colitis. Inflammatory bowel disease does not heal because of the protracted course.

It most often occurs in young adults, and the clinical manifestations are persistent or recurrent diarrhea, mucus pus and blood in the stool with abdominal pain, tenesmus and other gastrointestinal symptoms. The course of the disease is more than 4 to 6 weeks. Severe patients will also have extraintestinal manifestations such as repeated oral ulcers, peripheral arthritis, and systemic manifestations such as weakness, anemia, and weight loss. Among them, mucus pus and blood is the most common symptom of ulcerative colitis. Patients with mild symptoms can defecate 2-4 times a day, and severe cases can reach more than 10 times a day.

Zhi Min said that it needs to be clear that about 70% of the symptoms of ulcerative colitis are mild. Many patients, including moderate patients, can receive medication in the outpatient clinic. The type of medication is selected according to the extent of the lesion and the degree of disease activity. And dosage form, you need to insist on medication. The goal of treatment for ulcerative colitis is to control symptoms and improve quality of life.

The current treatment methods mainly include the use of aminosalicylic acid preparations, hormones, infliximab treatment and surgical treatment, etc. Among them, the treatment of aminosalicylic acid preparations is ineffective, especially those with extensive disease, can be switched to oral systemic hormones. Although moderate to severe patients are treated with corticosteroids, this is not a long-term treatment because side effects may include full moon face, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, cataracts, acne, and weight gain.
