Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin has extended the movement control order for the recovery period, which was originally scheduled to end on 31 August 2020 to 31 December 2020.
Muhyiddin announced the decision through live TV in the evening and said that although the parties concerned are actively engaged in epidemic prevention work, the epidemic in countries around the world still shows no sign of ending, and there are several infection groups in the country, so the government must retain existing legal mechanisms to control the epidemic.
He also expressed his support for the Ministry of Health’s proposal to increase the current fine of RM1,000 by 2 to 3 times under the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act of 1988. However, the relevant laws and regulations must be amended before this measure can be implemented.
