In less than two weeks of Hong Kong's originally scheduled Legislative Council election on 6 September 2020, the epidemic situation in Hong Kong has dropped significantly. Some online commentators have publicly urged Hong Kong people not to fall into the trap of the CCP and to regain the right to vote.

On 24 August, Hong Kong industrialist Yuan Gongyi publicly tweeted US Secretary of State Pompeo, asking the United States to put pressure on the CCP to give Hong Kong the right to restart the Legislative Council election.

Hong Kong industrialist Yuan Gongyi tweeted, "Our daily infection rate has reached a single digit. We demand that the election be restarted immediately. After we have a legal election, you should negotiate with the CCP, otherwise you should not negotiate with them."

Current affairs commentator Pan Dongkai believes that the Hong Kong government will implement the "Universal Community Testing Program" on 1 September, which is commonly known as universal testing, but it is contradictory to oppose popular voting.

He added, "Then if the epidemic is serious and you cannot vote, then you have to queue up for testing. Is there any contradiction between the two? I think before we accept a policy arrangement, if we see it there are obvious contradictions, which cannot be justified. I think we are assuming that it is unjust, unreasonable and conspiracy."

Pan Dongkai said that the refusal of the Hong Kong government's national testing is also a form of resistance, which is legal and protect personal data and ensure the data will not be sent to mainland China.
