According to local media reports on 17 August 2020, after the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that the aircraft abandoned at various airports in the country have safety hazard, about 101 aircraft will face the risk of being auctioned to cover the rising parking fees.
KAA gives the owners of these aircraft 30 days to claim the aircraft,. Otherwise they will be sold through a public auction. These aircraft include those used by business tycoons and politicians for short-distance flights, as well as commercial aircraft of some large companies like Kenya Airways and Fly540 Airlines. In addition, aircraft belonging to national institutions such as the Kenyan Police, Moi University, and the Somali Air Force also risk being sold through auctions.
