According to a report in Infocus, the official newsletter of Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM), new Work Permit cards are issued to fresh maids (Foreign Domestic Workers or FDWs) from 24 August 2020.

The parties that benefit from the new work permit cards include new employers, first-time FDWs starting to work in Singapore, FDWs who transfer to a new employer and FDWs who have reported losses of the old Work Permit cards, from 24 August 2020.

According to MOM, for FDWs who intend to transfer to a new employer, the old employers need to replace the card at a fee online at MOM's web-site.

The new Work Permit cards do not reflect the employer's name or address. This information will only be reflected when the QR code is scanned using the SGWorkPass app. Employers no longer need to change the FDW's work permit card if the employers' residential addresses are changed.

Existing FDWs who have been working in Singapore before 24 August 2020 will not receive the new Work Permit cards.

The new Work Permit cards could be useful contact tracing tools when the new FDWs enter shopping malls during their monthly leaves if they cannot access the TraceTogether app on their handphones.
