A study released by the University of Oxford on 25 August 2020 showed that blood cancer patients are particularly vulnerable in the pandemic compared with other types of cancer patients. Related results have been published in the British "Lancet Oncology" magazine.

A team led by researchers from the University of Oxford and the University of Birmingham conducted an in-depth analysis of data on the condition of adult cancer patients in the UK during the epidemic. The relevant data comes from more than 60 cancer centers in the UK.

The results of the study show that compared with patients with solid tumours such as breast cancer patients, patients with blood cancer have a 57% higher chance of becoming severely ill with covid. Among cancer patients of all ages, people over 80 have the highest mortality rate after being infected with SARS-CoV-2.

The researchers said that this study helps to better understand which cancer patients are at higher risk of severe illness after being infected with covi so that doctors can choose the best treatment options for different patients.
