Maldives reports a total of 5041 confirmed covid cases on 9 August 2020

The number of confirmed covid cases has surpassed 5,000 in the Maldives on 9 August 2020 after 143 more individuals were tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, while 13 patients recovered from the disease.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the Ministry of Health of the Maldives, the new cases include 107 Maldivians, 28 Bangladeshi nationals, six Indians and two Nepali citizens.

HPA stated that 140 of the newly positive cases were identified in the Greater Male' region while the remaining three were detected on other islands.

With these developments, Maldives now records total 5,041 confirmed and 2,218 active covid cases, along with 2,804 recoveries and 19 deaths.

In addition to the Greater Male' region, active covi cases are also present in Kelaa, Ihavandhoo and Filladhoo of Haa Alif Atoll, Naivaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Hulhudhuffaaru and Inguraidhoo in Raa Atoll, Kudarikilu and Kamadhoo in Baa Atoll, Hinnavaru of Lhaviyani Atoll, Maafushi of Kaafu Atoll, Fulidhoo of Vaavu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Hithadhoo of Addu City.

Furthermore, HPA revealed that active cases are present in eight resorts across the archipelago as well, including six tourists and nine staff members with confirmed infections.
