Various epidemics in China followed one after another. Following the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, the "novel bunyavirus" epidemic was reported in many provinces. Mainland Chinese media said that more than 60 people have been diagnosed and 7 people have died.
According to a report on Sina.com on 3 August 2020, 65-year-old Ms. Wang, who lives in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, continued to have a fever of up to 40 degrees and was accompanied by symptoms such as chills and fatigue. Hemoglobin is reduced.
Soon after, Ms. Wang had symptoms of coughing, sputum, and hypoxemia. In critical condition, she was sent to the Emergency Medicine Center of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, and was transferred to the Department of Infectious Diseases. After careful examination, the doctor diagnosed that Ms. Wang was infected with the novel bunyavirus.
Jin Ke, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, introduced that at the beginning of admission, Ms. Wang had multiple organ failures such as heart, lungs, and poor blood circulation. The hospital organized a consultation with experts and diagnosed the “new bunyavirus” infection, followed by a storm of inflammatory factors. Experts confirmed that Ms. Wang was ill from a tick bite.
It is understood that 37 people have been infected with the novel bunyavirus in the same hospital so far this year.
According to mainland Chinese media, in addition to Jiangsu, 23 people have been known to have been infected in Anhui Province since April this year, and 5 of them have died. In addition, two people died after being infected in Zhejiang Province.
Experts said that usually, tick bites can cause skin inflammatory allergic reactions, which can be cured by correct treatment and symptomatic treatment, but because ticks are also vectors of many pathogens, they cause infectious diseases.
In general, ticks are most active from April to October, and tend to occur in hilly areas. They live in forests, bushes, open pastures, grasslands, mountains and other environments. If you are bitten by a tick, you should go to the hospital to remove the tick. Once you have symptoms such as fever after being bitten by a tick, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible to prevent the virus from infecting others.
Experts say that if the human body is infected with novel bunyavirus, symptoms such as decreased white blood cells and bleeding in the body will occur.
Earlier, a new virus was isolated from a serum specimen of a patient with fever and thrombocytopenia in Henan Province, and it was identified as a new member of the Bunyaviridae sandfly virus, named "Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus", also known as the "novel bunyavirus".
