The National Health Commission sent personnel to Hong Kong to support the fight against the epidemic. The 7-member advance team of the "Mainland Nucleic Acid Testing Support Team" arrived in Hong Kong yesterday afternoon; another team of the "Inner Local Cabin Hospital Support Team" is expected to arrive in Hong Kong within the next week. Some team members said that they would not directly treat patients. They will only "guide the operation of the square cabin hospital." The Hong Kong government revealed the work of mainland personnel officially last night to Hong Kong media. The inspection team will now assist in the preparation of a "temporary laboratory" to increase its testing capacity, but it did not mention universal testing. The square cabin hospital team will assist in the construction of a new and similar site as the AsiaWord-Expo square cabin hospital, a temporary community treatment facility like the Wuhan "square cabin hospital".

Liaison Office Officer Zeng Guowei and Chen Zhaoshi welcome the members

The Health Commission organized a "nucleic acid testing support team" of 60 people to come to Hong Kong. Among them, 7 advance team members, including 6 men and 1 woman, arrived in Hong Kong from Shenzhen yesterday with medical supplies and arrived at Metropark Hotel Kowloon at 4 pm. The Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Committee Qiu Hong, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Zeng Guowei, the Secretary for Food and Health Chen Zhaoshi, and Legislative Council Members Mak Meijuan and Chen Hengpin welcome them.

The inspection team is led by Yu Dewen, the second-level inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission and the commander-in-chief of the Guangdong Support Wuhan Medical Team. The mainland media reported that the advance team members who arrived in Hong Kong yesterday will meet with the local health department and BGI and other testing institutions. They will go to the Department of Health and the Testing Center of the Hospital Authority to learn about the local laboratory procedures.

Yu Dewen told Xinhua News Agency that the main task of this visit to Hong Kong is to assist the Hong Kong government in carrying out large-scale screening. The "advance team" has 5 people from Guangzhou and 2 people from Shenzhen. They are selected from Guangdong CDC, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and Shenzhen People's Hospital. They are all laboratory experts and all speak Cantonese. . Guo Penghao, the leader of the "Advance Team", said that the main task of the "Advance Team" is to connect with relevant Hong Kong departments and to be familiar with Hong Kong's testing sites, equipment and procedures, and to lay the foundation for subsequent large-scale nucleic acid testing. The remaining 50 people of the entire team will set off to Hong Kong one after another, and their stay in Hong Kong will be one month.

60-person testing team visa stay for one month
The cabin team stays for half a year

As for the "Square shelter hospital support team", the mainland media reported that the team members will be selected by Wuhan City, Hubei Province with 6 experts with practical experience in shelter hospitals, including the hospital director, medical care, and architecture and design experts. At the community treatment facility of AsiaWorld-Expo, they will provide technical support for design, operation and management experience. Cheng Yujia, one of the members, said in an interview with "Cable TV" that the team will not directly treat patients, but "guide the operation of the shelter hospital." "What we have to do is follow-up. Of course we need to know how it works, not only just to isolate these people from other non-infectious diseases, we must protect medical staff from infection." He said that the team will go to Hong Kong within a day, and the visa can stay for half a year. He said that the locations of the "square cabin hospitals" in the two places are similar, both in stadiums, exhibition halls, etc., and believe that there is not much difference in operation.

In addition, the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission stated that it has urgently purchased a batch of materials to support the construction of the "square cabin hospital". The batch of materials arrived in Shenzhen at night of 1 August including 400 manual ordinary beds, 400 bedside tables, etc.

The government says the test samples will not be sent to mainland China

The Hong Kong government issued a statement yesterday, welcoming the Central Support Team to come to Hong Kong to help fight the epidemic. The Hong Kong government stated that the testing team will start to assist in preparing temporary laboratories today to greatly enhance the SARS-CoV-2 detection capabilities. The Hong Kong government also clarified that "all tests will only be conducted in Hong Kong, and samples will not be sent to the Mainland", accusing someone of deliberately spreading such false rumors and collecting evidence to study whether it would constitute a crime.

The Hong Kong government also stated that another support team of the Health Commission will assist the SAR government in the construction of temporary community treatment facilities similar to "square cabin hospitals" at the AsiaWorld-Expo.

Nationwide testing: Chen Zhaoshi: First prioritize which group to get screening

As for whether it will be extended to nationwide testing, Chen Zhaoshi stated on the commercial channel program "Political Good Sunday" yesterday that testing must first prioritize which group to get screening first and the overall process must have a comprehensive plan. She also said that all citizens can get testing in general outpatient clinics with sample bottles. She said that there are still many asymptomatic patients in the communities. It is important to increase the amount and scope of testing. Up to now, about 90,000 to 100,000 tests have been conducted for four high-risk groups, but there are still different high-risk individuals in the communities, such as nursing home staff. She stressed to do one more test, "do it first with a lot of testing."

District councilors protested:
Hong Kong people lack confidence in mainland medical care

The New Democratic League district councillors yesterday protested the Hong Kong government’s introduction of mainland testing and inspection personnel, saying that they did not respect Hong Kong experts, medical staff, and testing personnel. They also said that Hong Kong people generally lack confidence in mainland Chinese medical treatment and testing. The samples and DNA will be sent to the mainland.
