The SARS-CoV-2 epidemic continues to spread in mainland China. Since the local confirmed case was detected in Xinjiang on 15 July 2020, the epidemic has continued to spread and even spread to Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Officials in Urumqi City stated that the local area has strengthened rural closed management. All non-agricultural production personnel are closed at home, while production personnel must engage in closed labor.

The Central News Agency reported on 7 August that according to the official Weibo of the Press Office of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government of the Communist Party of China, Li Xiangrun, director of the Urumqi Agriculture and Rural Bureau, made the above statement at the press conference for epidemic prevention and control in the afternoon of 7 August.

Li Xiangrun said that the local area has strengthened the closed management of villages and implemented the separation management of rural living areas and agricultural production areas. All non-agricultural production personnel are closed at home for management, and agricultural production personnel are closed in production sites to engage in production labour.

He pointed out that the local rural areas have closed rural crowded places and suspended crowd gathering activities; closed all business premises except vegetable shops, grain and oil shops, grocery stores, and pharmacies.

Li Xiangrun also mentioned that when villagers stay at home, village cadres contract household management services and require villagers not to go out without permission. Village cadres and volunteers provide daily life services such as vegetable, non-staple food, medicine and other daily necessities distribution and garbage disposal.

According to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Health Commission, 26 new confirmed cases of covid and 10 new asymptomatic infections were reported in Urumqi on 6 August.

As of 6 August, Xinjiang officials said there were 643 confirmed cases, including 640 in Urumqi, 1 in Kashgar, 1 in Changji Prefecture, and 1 in the Corps. There are 128 asymptomatic infections, including 127 in Urumqi and 1 in Changji Prefecture. There are still 19,546 people under medical observation.

In view of the fact that the CCP has always concealed the truth of the epidemic, outsiders believe that the number of confirmed cases of covid notified by Xinjiang is far lower than the actual number of confirmed cases.

On 1 August, some netizens uploaded a video saying that Urumqi is transforming the Hongshan Stadium into a shelter hospital to treat more infected patients.

It is understood that since the lock down of Urumqi on 16 July, the epidemic has not only spread to surrounding cities, but there is no sign of slowing down locally. Traffic is currently prohibited throughout Xinjiang.

Xinjiang has set up a concentration camp to detain a large number of people, which has been condemned by the international community. After the city and villages are closed in Urumu, the outside world fears that there will be a serious and unknown humanitarian disaster.
