A Chinese official recently issued a document stating that people going out among populations in key areas (communities with recent epidemics include confirmed cases and asymptomatic infections, old communities, densely populated communities, floating population clusters, and recent departures from the province) and patients in medical institutions, etc. are not recommended to use diluted mixed sample testing.
On the basis of summarizing the practical experience of nucleic acid testing in Hubei Province and Wuhan, the Medical Treatment Team of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic of the State Council of China recently organized and formulated the "Technical Guidelines for the Detection of New Coronavirus Nucleic Acid Screening Diluted Mixed Samples."
According to the technical guidelines, the novel coronavirus nucleic acid screening diluted mixed sample technology is only applicable to the screening of samples from a large population, and the diluted mixed sample test result is not used as the basis for the final diagnosis. It is more appropriate when the overall positive rate of the population is low (less than 0.1%).
People who are not recommended to use diluted mixed testing include: populations in key areas (communities with recent epidemics include confirmed cases and asymptomatic infections, old communities, densely populated communities, floating population clusters, and people who have recently left the province). Other people who are not suitable for dilution and mixed sample testing include patients in medical institutions.
The National Health Commission of China previously explained that there are two modes of "mixed inspection". One is to sample several people separately and put them in the same sampling tube during sampling; the other is to conduct laboratory testing. , Take the same volume of samples from several people and mix them together. From a scientific point of view, the first mode does not affect the sensitivity of nucleic acid detection, and the latter mode, which combines samples for detection, has a certain impact on the detection sensitivity, but the degree of impact is known.
The National Health Commission stated that mixed testing has greatly improved the ability of nucleic acid testing, but it needs to be emphasized that for the testing of high-risk populations such as symptomatic patients and close contacts in fever clinics, single-collection and single-check should be used. For screening of low-risk populations, "mixed inspection" can be selected first.
Official data show that on 21 July 2020, 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 14 new confirmed cases, of which 9 are local cases in Xinjiang. Urumqi is speeding up the full coverage of free nucleic acid testing. As of 12 am on 22 July 2020, the city has sampled 1,037,548 samples.
