A court document released by the United States on Tuesday showed that the Ministry of National Security (MSS) appointed two contractors for allegedly participating in cyber espionage and stealing vaccines including the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Several megabytes of data including research data were sued by the US Department of Justice.

According to the Taiwan Central News Agency, the Justice Department’s indictment announced by the United States accused Chinese citizens Li Xiaoyu and Dong Jiazhi of participating in cyber-espionage operations from the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, and Belgium. Steal weapon designs, drug information, software source codes, and other data from target computers in the country.

The indictment alleges that Li and Dong were contractors of the Ministry of National Security (MSS) of the Chinese Communist Party. The Ministry of National Security of the Communist Party of China provides these hackers with information on important network software vulnerabilities to help them penetrate target computers and collect information.

The indictment did not specifically mention any specific company that was hacked, but it mentioned that Lee and Dong had stolen megabytes of data from target computers in multiple countries around the world. The targets of these hackers include protesters in Hong Kong, the office of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, and Chinese Christian non-profit organizations.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to the allegations made by the US Department of Justice.
