Japan revitalizes tourism, Tokyo breaks 10,000 cases, Osaka breaks 100 in a single day

Tokyo added 238 new confirmed cases on 22 July 2020, and the cumulative total number of infections exceeded 10,000. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, "Through implementation of anti-epidemic measures such as avoiding access to confined spaces, and cooperating with the citizens to prevent the epidemic, the policy of restoring economic activities has not changed."

However, on the first day of the promotion of tourism on the road, various places also added record-breaking numbers of confirmed cases, including Aichi, Kanagawa, Chiba and Osaka, which added 121 cases, setting a record for the highest single day since the outbreak. It was also the first time that Osaka broke 100 in a single day.

Yoshinori Yoshimura, Governor of Osaka Prefecture, announced, "The latest confirmed situation has just been confirmed. Today, the number of confirmed cases is about 120."

Japan has begun a 4-day holiday on Thursday (23 July). The Governor of Tokyo Koike urged Tokyo residents to avoid unnecessary outings during the holiday, especially the elderly and patients with chronic diseases, to prevent the infection from spreading again.
