Heavy rains continue in southern China, and the third wave of floods in the Yangtze River is passing through Chongqing, flooding the ancient town of Ciqikou in Chongqing. At the same time, earthquakes in the upper reaches of the Three Gorges continued, threatening the Three Gorges Dam. In the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Anhui Province, which has become the "discarded child" of the CCP's flood control, once again took the initiative to release floods and dug the Jiangkou River embankment. Local netizens denounced the CCP for recklessness.
Since July, the Yangtze River Basin has experienced three waves of floods in succession, causing serious disasters. According to the Chinese Communist Party, the No. 3 flood on the Yangtze River is also the largest flood this year, and it formed in the upper reaches on the 26th. The Hydrological Bureau of the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources issued a yellow warning for flooding in the upstream Cuntan River section and the Three Gorges reservoir.
On 27 July, Hongfeng began to pass through Chongqing, and the water level rose rapidly. By 10 am local time, the water level of Ciqikou Ancient Town in Chongqing, located on the bank of the Jialing River, reached 184.07 meters, which exceeded the warning water level by more than 3 meters, and the buildings in the lower areas were submerged. At 11 o'clock, the river flooded the 180 platform of Chaotianmen, a landmark building in Chongqing, and the water level reached the middle of the Chaotianmen gate.
According to Chongqing officials, the flow and water levels of the main Chongqing section of the Yangtze River are still rising, and the highest water level is expected to appear late at night on the 27th.
The Yangtze River flood peak will directly threaten the Three Gorges Dam. In addition, recent earthquakes have occurred in the upstream of the dam, which has also increased the doubts about the safety of the dam.
China Seismological Station's Weibo said that a 3.4 earthquake occurred in Changning County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province at 4:6 pm on the 27th, with a focal depth of 8 kilometers, which is an extremely shallow earthquake. There have been 6 earthquakes in the upper reaches of the Three Gorges Dam this month. Wang Weiluo, a Chinese water conservancy expert residing in Germany, has previously warned that earthquakes are one of the keys that may cause the dam to break. The dam can only prevent a magnitude 6 earthquake at most.
In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, flooding from the Three Gorges Dam and heavy rains caused floods to flood for more than a month. In order to protect the economic big cities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, the rural areas of Jiangxi and Anhui became the targets of "sacrifice" by the CCP, and various places continued to release floods and even broke their banks.
Among them, Anhui Province announced on 27 July that after the Wangjiaba gate opened to discharge the floodwater to the Mengwa flood storage area, it was announced on that day to "depressurize" the Chaohu Lake. With a gap of about 100 meters, it is estimated that 100 million cubic meters of floodwater will flow into local farmland and villages.
Prior to this, the authorities’ flood releases had already severely affected places such as the 3000-year-old town of Zhegao near Chaohu Lake. However, related news was mostly blocked. It wasn't until Jiangkouhe took the initiative to open the gate and break the embankment, and the party media began to vigorously promote the "voluntary sacrifice" of Anhui people. However, many netizens in Anhui did not buy into the "positive energy propaganda" of the CCP, and they denounced the authorities for recklessness.
On social media, netizens in Anhui have accused the floods of not only natural disasters, but also man-made disasters, and questioned that the huge amount of funds previously invested in the treatment of the floods was squandered, and the party media falsely reported the disasters.
