Former Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui died on 30 June 2020 at 7.24 pm

Former Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui died at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital at 7.24 pm on 30 June 2020 at the age of 97. It was reported in Taiwan this morning that Lee Teng-hui was suffering from severe kidney failure and needed kidney dialysis to maintain his life. Insiders at the Veterans General Hospital did not deny this information. After the news came out, Lee Teng-hui’s wife, Lee Zeng Wenhui, drove there at 12 pm.  After the visit, her car left the hospital at 6 pm but the car returned to the hospital at 7 pm. By 7.24 pm, the hospital confirmed that Lee Teng-hui died of illness. The hospital stated that Lee Teng-hui had been hospitalized in the Presidential Ward on the 22nd floor of the Zhongzheng Building of the hospital since he was hospitalized in February.  Temporary memorial places were set up.

Born in 1923, Lee Teng-hui holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University in the United States. He was elected as the seventh vice president of the Republic of China in 1984. After the death of former president Chiang Ching-kuo in January 1988, he was succeeded as the seventh president; Lee Teng-hui was elected as the seventh president in March 1990. The General Assembly elected the eighth president; the first direct presidential election of the Republic of China was held in March 1996. Lee Teng-hui was elected the ninth president and the first directly elected president of the Republic of China. He was hailed as the pioneer of Taiwan’s democracy. May 19, 2000 His term of office expired on 19 May 2000.
