A new study shows that people taller than six feet are twice as likely to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 than others. Researchers say this means that droplets are not the only virus transmission channel.
The study is the result of a survey of approximately 2,000 patients in the United States and the United Kingdom. The researchers initially planned to find the relationship between personal traits, work and life habits and infection with the virus, and the final results showed that the taller people are, the greater the risk of illness.
Researchers believe that this result may indicate that SARS-CoV-2 is not only spread by droplets, the height of tall people plays another factor in the high prevalence.
As for why tall people are more likely to be infected, the study did not give a reason, but said that this result confirmed that the virus may be spread through aerosols.
After being mixed with aerosol, the virus can be suspended in the air and will not fall easily. Even if social distance is maintained, it is difficult to avoid infection, especially in a closed environment with poor ventilation.
For this reason, experts said that people must wear airtight, high-quality masks when going out. At the same time, washing hands frequently and going to spaces with large or semi-enclosed traffic as little as possible can also effectively prevent the epidemic.
