Xinjiang recently notified multiple cases of confirmed covid cases. Urumqi suddenly cancelled a large number of flights and suspended subway lines, and an outbreak was suspected. Local netizens have disclosed that all communities in the city  areclosed for 7 days. There are unconfirmed internal notices that outbreaks have occurred in southern Xinjiang and Yili, as well as in many urban areas in Urumqi, at least 10 days ago.

On the mainland Weibo, many Urumqi netizens have revealed that starting from 12 am of 17 July, all communities in the city will be fully closed. The official notice stated that the food and necessities needed by residents will be distributed by the government.

On Urumqi lock down, Internet pictures show that during the daytime on 17 July, the streets were basically empty, and the traffic on the highway had disappeared, and there was silence. In some communities, people are still free to move around.

A suspected CCP supporter posted a video, boasting that the so-called "Xinjiang speed" closed the city in just a few hours, and it was "in an orderly manner." However, many local netizens complained that the closure of the city was too hasty and they were unprepared. Although the official claimed to deliver essential goods, they were worried about whether they could take good care of it. Some netizens have posted pictures and pointed out that frantic purchases have appeared in some community stores.

Some netizens who traveled to Urumqi said that they had been trapped in a hotel, had no food, did not even order takeaways, and were unable to conduct nucleic acid tests.

Prior to this, Urumqi officials had notified the suspension of 90% of flights, and the only subway line in the city.

There was also an unconfirmed notice from a Urumqi director's office. The notice shows that southern Xinjiang and Yili City, as well as many urban areas such as the Tianshan District, sandy area and water area of Urumqi, have outbreaks.

The notice also requires people who have symptoms such as fever and cough within 14 days to be investigated. In addition, on 5 July, there may have been cluster infections in Erdaoqiao Grand Theater, MGM Bar of Western Region Youth Workers, and Baihe Tiya Ballroom. There were also infections in Zhongquan Square on Zhongshan Road and Erdaoqiao Banquet Hall.

If the notification is true, it means that the Xinjiang epidemic has been out for two weeks, and the government has concealed it for a long time.

The notice also showed that Kazakh "unknown pneumonia" may have reached Urumqi. Two Kazakh experts working at the Xinjiang Institute of Geosciences (Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography) in Urumqi have passed away. One of them went from illness to death in only 3 days.

Urumqi officially announced on 17 July that from 3 pm to 5 pm on 17 July, there were 6 new local confirmed cases and 11 asymptomatic infections. On 16 July, the city announced the diagnosis of a “local case with unknown source of infection”, but this case did not appear in the nationally confirmed cases announced in Beijing that day.
