Due to the impact of the pandemic, masks have become a necessity in people's daily lives. However, this will inevitably affect people's communication, not only unable to interpret lip language, but sometimes also affect the volume of speech.  Japanese technology company Donut Robotics recently invented a smart mask that can interpret and translate eight languages, which surprised the outside world and is expected to be launched in Japan by the end of 2020.

According to Reuters, the smart mask launched by Japanese technology company Donut Robotics recently is known as the "C-Face Smart mask". This mask is made of white plastic and silicone. It has a Bluetooth device inside. It can be adjusted after connecting to the app on the phone. Increase the user's sound volume so that communication between the two parties will not be affected by the need to maintain social distance.

The most amazing thing is that this smart mask has a real-time translation function. It can record the user’s dialogue into a text draft, which is translated into eight languages including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, English, Spanish and French.

Donut Robotics CEO Yasuke Ono said that the Bluetooth chip of this smart mask can be connected to a smart phone 10 meters away. Two people who use the mask can know what the other party wants to express through their mobile phones. He said that the translation technology for masks comes from the translation technology originally developed for robots.

Donut Robotics has developed Cinnamon, a robot for receptionists at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. An epidemic disrupted the aviation tourism industry and also disrupted Donut Robotics’ original plan to continue to upgrade the Cinnamon robot. Instead, it was used and applied on  the smart mask.

However, this smart mask does not have an anti-epidemic function. Therefore, users must wear ordinary masks inside to achieve the effect of epidemic prevention.

In a video, Donut Robotics CEO Yasuke Ono personally demonstrated the function of the smart mask "C-Face Smart mask".

The first batch of "C-Face Smart mask" is expected to be shipped to consumers in Japan in December this year, at a price of about 40 US Dollars or 3,980 yen ). At present, consumers in the UK and the US are also very interested in this product, but they will not be available to overseas markets before April 2021.
