Trump appeals to stop Georgia from recounting votes, Secretary of State is sued in court

Georgia, the United States, began to recount the votes manually on Friday, but the signatures on the mailed ballots have not been verified. President Trump requested verification of the signature on the mailed ballots, and at the same time, Trump team lawyers took the Georgia Secretary of State to court.

Georgia is one of the six battlefield states where the Trump team has filed a lawsuit. With 16 electoral votes, the gap between Biden and Trump in Joe State is only 0.3%. Starting on November 13, the state has begun to manually recount nearly 5 million votes.

But Trump said in a tweet on Saturday that Georgia’s ongoing manual recount was a waste of time because they did not perform signature verification. Georgia should cancel the recount until they allow the signatures to be verified.

Representative Doug Collins, a Republican who oversaw the recount in Georgia on behalf of Trump’s team, said on Saturday that the state would not be able to properly certify the presidential election results if absent ballots and voter signatures on envelopes are not verified.

At the same time, the barrister of Trump’s team of lawyers led by Lin Wood sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and members of the state’s election commission in federal court for violating the Constitution. Linwood said that the Secretary of State and the Election Commission have no authority to change the way that absentee votes are counted.
