US President Trump signed the "Hong Kong Autonomy Act" on 14 July 2020 to take effect and issued an executive order to suspend or cancel Washington's special treatment for Hong Kong. Bloomberg quoted news reports that before Trump signed the bill, the team has drawn up a list of sanctions, including Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and Police Commissioner Deng Bingqiang, but he told his assistant that he did not want to further increase tensions with Beijing. Therefore he decided not to issue a list to sanction senior officials.
John Ullyot, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said Trump did not rule out further sanctions on officials on Hong Kong or other issues, and the suggestion of anonymous sources is completely wrong.
