The SARS-CoV-2 strains that appeared in the new market in Beijing, China in June 2020 may be from South or Southeast Asia, and not European. There are more than 300 people in this infected group. Researchers at Harvard University in the United States collected three sets of Beijing viral genome sequences and compared them with more than 7,600 samples from around the world. They found that these three genomes appeared in Europe from February to May this year and in South Asia from May to June. The strains in Southeast Asia have the highest similarity. The Beijing SARS-CoV-2 strains are similar to the few infections found in China in March. It shows that the strains may first appear in China, and then return to China three months later.
