Taiwan’s recent local covid outbreaks and confirmed cases spread across many counties and cities, aroused high public attention to epidemic prevention, and even foreign media concerns. Taiwan is regarded as a global "anti-epidemic student", not only in the United States. US Minister of Health Alex Azar once came to Taiwan to learn from his experience. The Tsai government also slogans "Taiwan can help" and donated masks from many countries. However, the domestic epidemic has rapidly increased in recent days, and it has also caused the outside world to pay attention to whether the top student in epidemic prevention will succeed this year.

According to a report by German media Deutsche Welle, since the covid outbreak, Taiwan has been regarded as a "top student" in the global fight against the epidemic. Before his visit to Taiwan in August last year, Azar also stated that the purpose of his trip was to strengthen the health of the United States and Taiwan. The security partnership also hopes to learn from Taiwan’s experience in dealing with the novel coronavirus.

However the domestic epidemic is rapidly heating up and boarded on foreign media, bluntly saying whether the top student in epidemic prevention Taiwan has succeeded in overcoming the virus.

At the end of last year, President Tsai Ing-wen also introduced Taiwan’s successful anti-epidemic experience during an interview with Cornell University’s Cornell Law Forum. She mentioned that Taiwan has three main principles in response to the epidemic, including prudent response, which is  quickly responding to and deploying anti-epidemic measures in advance, so as to seize the opportunity to avoid lockdown.

During the epidemic, Taiwan also slogans "Taiwan can help" and donated medical masks to other countries. Recently, local cases have spread across many counties and cities, and various places have rushed to disinfect.

Last year, Taiwanese media pointed out that Belgian engineers, Japanese students and Japanese engineers all stayed in Taiwan for a long time and were diagnosed when they returned to their countries. However, after investigation by the command centre, they believed that the source of these infected cases is not in Taiwan. The report also raised questions at the end. Because Taiwan has not implemented general screening, some people believe that there may be a difference between the infection cases notified by Taiwan and the "actual situation."

According to statistics from the command centre, as of 13 May 2021, the total number of confirmed covid cases in Taiwan is 1,256, including 1,068 inbound cases, 135 local cases, 36 cases on the Tunmu fleet, 2 aircraft infections, 1 unidentified case, and 14 cases under investigation. Among the confirmed cases, there are 12 people died, 1102 cases were lifted from quarantine and 142 people are still in hospital isolation.
