Heavy casualties in the Israel-Palestine conflict has suffered heavy casualties, the different tunes of the US and CCPC

Palestinian officials said that 16 May 2021 was the worst day of casualties since the Israeli air strike this year. The Central News Agency reported that a total of 42 Palestinians in the Gaza area were killed in the airstrikes. More than half were women and children, including at least 8 children and 2 doctors.

However, the Israeli military stated that they tried to avoid civilian casualties. However, Hamas "intentionally built military infrastructure under civilian houses," and the collapse of underground military facilities caused the foundations of civilian houses above to collapse, causing accidental casualties. Therefore, Hamas should bear the responsibility for civilian deaths.

So far, at least 208 people have died on both sides of the conflict. The New York Post quoted the Gaza Ministry of Health as saying that 198 people were killed, including 58 children and 35 women, and 1,300 were injured in the fighting. However, Gaza did not specify how many of the dead belonged to Hamas or other terrorist organizations. There were also casualties on the Israeli side. 10 people were killed in the fighting, including a soldier and a 5-year-old boy.

On 16 May, the UN Security Council once again convened an emergency meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, the United States and CCPC still differ on the issue of whether the Security Council will issue a statement.

The Foreign Minister of the CCP, Wang Yi, who presided over the meeting, put forward four propositions on behalf of the Communist Party: Ceasefire and stop violence, humanitarian assistance, international support and the "two-state solution."

The so-called "two-state plan" is a plan proposed by the United Nations in 1974. It is advocated that Israel and Palestine should be established as two governments, a state of Israel and a state of Palestine, coexisting peacefully on a border recognized by both parties.

But Palestine demands that the territory of Palestine be delimited according to the territory before the 1967 war but Israel opposed this plan, and countries such as the United States and Canada also vetoed it.

The US does not approve of the statement made by the Security Council for the claims made by the CCP. Greenfield, the ambassador to the United Nations, said that the US calls for an end to violence and is ready to support a ceasefire on all sides. However, if the Security Council issues a statement at this time, it may be counterproductive.

Israel and Palestine will not cease fire, Beijing calls for negotiation in China

Since last Friday (14 May), Biden's special envoy, Hadi Amu, has been in Israel to discuss the crisis with Israeli officials. The BBC stated that because the United States, like Israel and many other countries, considers Hamas a terrorist organization, Eminem will not meet with Hamas. Any news of Hamas can only be spread through Egypt or Qatar.

According to local media, Hamas has provided "some form" of ceasefire for several days but Israel has consistently refused. Israel hopes to hit Hamas as hard as possible before the battle is finally over.

In a televised speech  on 16 May, Israeli Prime Minister Nataniahu stated that he would continue to attack Hamas with all his strength and for a period of time, causing the Hamas regime in Gaza to pay a heavy price.

The BBC believes that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is proceeding according to a familiar pattern. Israel is attacking Palestine with "unquestioned military superiority." For this reason, the CCP specifically proposed that it welcomes the negotiators of Palestine and Israel to hold direct negotiations in mainland China. Wang Yi also criticized the United States for obstructing the UN Security Council's unanimous voice.

The role of the CCP in the Israel-Palestine conflict

Everyone knows that the CCP is the source of turmoil in this world, and behind many things, the ghost of the CCP can be seen. The CCP likes to "win amidst chaos" and profit from it. Why does it appear to be "peace-loving" now?

Why is Beijing anxious?

There is a saying in China that "no benefit can't get you early". The CCP has major interests in the Middle East. Generally speaking, there are two main reasons.

For a long time, the CCP has supported Palestine. It was one of the first countries to recognize Palestine in November 1988. The CCP has all voted for Palestine in many UN votes, including supporting Palestine to obtain observer status in 2012.

In the CCP’s propaganda, the CCP portrays Israel as an aggressor and Palestine as resisting aggression. The CCP not only complained about the Palestinian militants who caused the terrorist attacks, but also distorted all this as "the result of Israeli aggression."

The reason why the CCP intervened in Middle East affairs was that it took a fancy to the rich oil resources in the Middle East. The Middle East has always been the world's largest energy exporter, and the CCP is the world's largest oil importer. At least half of its oil comes from the Middle East.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine will undoubtedly affect the CCP’s oil import business. Out of concerns about oil imports, the CCP certainly hopes that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will end as soon as possible. This is the first reason.

The second reason is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has affected the CCP’s "One Belt, One Road" plan.

Beijing and Israel established diplomatic relations relatively late, and only officially established diplomatic relations in 1992. Although not long, the two sides have also established extensive economic and military relations. Since 2000, China has gradually developed into Israel's third largest trading partner and second largest export destination, second only to the US and the European Union.

After the CCP began to implement the "Belt and Road" plan in 2013, it has further expanded its influence in the Middle East. In Palestine and Israel, the CCP has invested a lot of money. Beijing is trying to connect the relations between Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe through the "One Belt One Road" plan.

In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, both sides are unable to rest because of the war. The war will inevitably affect the CCP’s “One Belt, One Road” plan, and may cause the CCP’s investment in the Middle East to be watered down. Therefore, Beijing is very anxious and hopes that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will end as soon as possible.

Taiwan's epidemic worsens, the key to the next 2 weeks

Next, pay attention to the epidemic situation. Taiwan, which has always been regarded by the international community as a benchmark for epidemic prevention, is getting worse.

According to figures from the Central Epidemic Command Center, 335 new confirmed cases of the CCP virus were added today, a record high in history. Among them, 333 were local cases, and 2 were imported from abroad.

Among the local cases discovered on 17 May, Taipei City accounted for 158 cases, of which 89 cases were in Wanhua District. This is followed by New Taipei City with 148 cases. The rest are distributed in Taoyuan, Keelung, Changhua and Taizhong.

The command center announced that starting at 0:00 on the 19th, the entry of non-nationals without a residence permit from the Republic of China will be suspended, and passengers will be suspended from transiting to Taiwan until June 18. At that time, rolling adjustments will be implemented based on the epidemic situation.

In addition, Shuangbei further announced that schools below vocational high school will be closed until May 28.

The Taipei government stated that the announcement of the suspension will affect 285 elementary schools, 291 kindergartens, 2,593 cram schools and 199 security classes, involving 330,000 students. However, the Taipei government encourages distance learning and suspends classes.

In fact, President Su Zhenchang announced on 15 May that Taipei and New Taipei have entered the third level of alert. Stop family gatherings and social gatherings of 5 people indoors and 10 people outdoors, close dance halls and other leisure and entertainment venues, etc.

Taipei Mayor Ke Wenzhe stated that the positive rate of Taipei screening is just 10%, indicating that the CCP virus is already a "community infection" and that the city should be "automatically and spontaneously shut down" at this time. From now on, everyone stays at home, except for the necessities of the people’s livelihood, all other suggestions are closed.

Ke Wenzhe expressed the hope that all citizens in Taiwan "rely on self-management of their own civic qualities to solve the current crisis. Don't let the diagnosis rise too fast because of people-to-person contact. Once the capacity of the medical system is exceeded, the whole will collapse."

National Taiwan University Public Health Professor Zhan Changquan told Radio Free Asia that the 10% positive rate in Taipei's Wanhua District is a bit like some areas in New York last year, "it is already a very serious community infection."

Wang Zhihong, director of the Preventive Medical Research Center at Stanford University, who has long been concerned about Taiwan's epidemic prevention strategies, said that the current epidemic in Taiwan is heating up. In addition to the government taking the lead in "extinguishing fires", the people must also join the ranks of epidemic prevention, and the epidemic will be controlled.

Wang Zhihong told Deutsche Welle that because of the small number of local cases in Taiwan in the past year, Taiwanese society has been somewhat relaxed about epidemic prevention. But when the number of local cases surged, the general public immediately followed the instructions issued by the command center and did not go out immediately. "If Taiwanese people do not go out for two weeks, the transmission rate will naturally decrease."

Chernobyl brewing a nuclear explosion? Neutron surge

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion in 1986 caused serious radiation pollution and injured many people.

Later, in order to prevent radioactive pollution from spreading to the atmosphere, the authorities built a huge “sarcophagus” of reinforced concrete structure to cover the No. 4 nuclear reactor. But now some scientists have discovered that the residual nuclear fuel in the basement of the reactor building seems to have undergone a nuclear fission reaction, and there is no sign of stopping, which may trigger another wave of explosions.

According to "Life Science" reports, researchers monitoring the factory found in an underground room that the number of neutrons, which had always been stable, was increasing sharply. The rise in neutron levels indicates that these nuclear fuels are undergoing new fission reactions. Because the neutrons collide and split the nucleus of the uranium atom, energy is generated.

Neil Hyatt, a nuclear materials chemist at Sherfield University in the United Kingdom, told Science that this type of radioactive waste is currently "burning like embers in a barbecue." Hyatt believes that if left out of control for a long time, these embers may ignite completely, leading to another explosion.

Savelyev, a senior researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Power Safety Issues, believes that the explosion may not be as destructive as the 1986 explosion, and the scope of the explosion may be in the "sarcophagus." But he pointed out that even though it is a "closed explosion", it will make the long-term task of removing the "fuel covering material" more difficult, and may even destroy the old "sarcophagus" structure.
