How to wear when the covid virus is spreading, with the lowest risk?

Many people who have to go out to take public transportation and worry about the virus in the air are scared to wear full-body protective clothing to commute by MRT or bus. The doctor said that in fact, you do not need to wear protective clothing or PPE. It is recommended to wear a mask. As long as your body’s equipment is washable clothes and shoes, do not touch external surfaces randomly, change and wash your clothes at home, there is no need to worry about bringing the virus home.

News (2)

Wearing PPE and disposable raincoats are more susceptible to viruses

According to Xiao Xinchang, the attending physician of the Department of Otolaryngology at Xiu Chuan Hospital in Taiwan, he said that in fact, PPE is only required when contacting patients with suspected infection or infection, and most people do not need to wear protective clothing. Do not wear disposable raincoats as well because plastic raincoats have a smooth surface and the virus can survive longer. Compared with the surface of plastic or steel material, covi or the covid virus decays faster on plain clothes. So it is better to wear pure cotton clothes that can be washed to prevent viruses.

News (3)

Hair is not easy to be infected with viruses. Wear a cloth hat

If you are worried that your hair will get the virus aerosol, you can wear a cloth hat that can be washed. Xiao Xinchang said that it does not matter if one does not wear a hat. According to the New England Journal research, most virus droplets will fall to the ground within a few seconds, and hair is less likely to be infected with viruses. Just be careful: "Don't touch your hands!" If you move around and the wind blows, even if the virus falls on your hair or body, it will be shaken off.

News (4)

Wash all clothes and hats after reaching home

Then after reaching home,  wash off all the clothes and hats. So there is no worry about bringing the virus home from the outside to infect your family.

News (5)

Wear washable cloth shoes to prevent the virus from entering the home

Since the virus mostly falls on the ground, it can get stuck on the soles of shoes when walking. Therefore, it is recommended to choose cloth shoes that can be washed when you go out. If it is leather shoes that are inconvenient to wash, go home and spray the shoes and soles with alcohol to disinfect them. Do not take your shoes into your home. Put them in the hallway or in a shoe cabinet that is regularly disinfected.

How to avoid infection at home in a large outbreak of community infection?

How can I prevent myself from being infected at home in a large outbreak of community infection? The doctor provides 4 tips to effectively prevent the spread of covid in the home.

It is recommended to open the windows of the home and maintain air circulation is the most effective way. If you use air conditioners or electric fans, you cannot use the internal circulation or blow directly against it, because the wrong way of such electrical equipment usage may increase the risk of covi infection.

The more family members, the higher the virus spread within the family

Huang Xuan, a specialist in thoracic and intensive care, pointed out that when there is an undiagnosed case in a family, he has at least 5 contact history with family members at home before he has the disease for 2 days. A study in the US pointed out that the more members in the family, the higher the family transmission. As long as there are more than 3 family members, the family transmission will soon exceed 50%.

2 family members, the chance of causing family transmission is 20%
3 family members, resulting in a 47% chance of family transmission
4 family members, the chance of causing family transmission is 53%
5 family members, the chance of family transmission is 70%
6 family members, resulting in a 67% chance of family transmission

4 ways to avoid family covi transmission

Huang Xuan believes that avoiding family transmission is nothing more than maintaining a safe social distance, which can reduce the R value (viral infection) besides wearing masks, frequent hand washing, household disinfection, air circulation and the intervention of health personnel.

❶Wear a mask and wash hands frequently
People who are suspected of having high transmission in the family can wear a mask because it has a 79% effect and can reduce the risk of family transmission but if the case is on, the mask is not obvious protection. The intervention of health personnel can increase the wearing of masks by 57% and frequent hand washing by 26%.

❷Household disinfection
Using disinfectant water at home can disinfect the home environment by 77%, which can reduce the risk of family transmission.

❸Air circulation
The easiest and most effective way to open the windows is to open the windows in the home to circulate the air in the home. The US CDC also recommends this, which can reduce the concentration of virus droplets in the room. If you have windows in your home but cannot be opened, you can use air conditioning.

Air conditioning setting: Disable the setting of internal circulation, because it will only inhale the virus in the room all the time. Please set the external circulation, that is, let the outside air enter the room and let the dirty air out of the room. The World Health Organization recommends that the air be completely replaced 12 times every 60 minutes.

Use a fan: Almost everyone has a fan at home but it is forbidden to use a fan to blow directly at you as it will only increase the risk. It is recommended to open the door or turn on the fan by the window to promote the airflow to the outside, which is the correct way to use it.

❹Involvement of health personnel
Another research report shows that if family members have suspected cases, as long as health personnel intervene in health education warnings, there is a great chance that the family's transmission will decrease.

At home, the most obvious thing is that behaviour can block transmission. The maximum order is as follows: Sleep in separate rooms 88%, wear masks 57%, private bathroom 50%, environmental disinfection 43%, and frequent hand washing 26%. It can be seen that avoiding family transmission must be very serious. Only by intervening can there be ways to reduce the risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Use only masks with good filtering capabilities to withstand covi mutant strains

Using masks with higher filtering capabilities can help reduce the risk of transmission and infection. It is recommended that the public use medical masks or have at least two layers of fabric of reusable masks to filter covi mutant strains that can spread through aerosols.

The Ministry of Health states that the reusable masks (as above) previously jointly issued by the People’s Association and the Temasek Fund have good filtering functions but users should control the number of re-uses according to recommendations.

Disposable masks generally indicate the filtering function of the mask on the product specifications.

The Ministry of Health does not  encourage the use of exhaust masks (as above). Although these masks are more comfortable, they are more suitable for use in response to smog. From the perspective of public health and infection control, they cannot provide enough protection and prevention of the spread of the virus.

Singapore has a sufficient supply of masks. There is no need to rush to buy more masks and people do not need to stock them up.

Why has Taiwan failed this time in epidemic prevention?

The aura of Taiwan's "model student in global epidemic prevention" is getting bleak.

On 12 May 2021, Minister of Health Chen Shizhong, who is also the commander of the Central Epidemic Command Centre, originally thought that the epidemic had entered a very severe stage and intended to set up a third level of alert, but changed his words because of the instructions of the Executive President Su Zhenchang. This is the first failure in the fight against the epidemic to give the virus a chance to take advantage of it. The virus B.1.1.7 is out of control.

In addition to miscalculating the "upgrade point", the Su cabinet repeatedly rejected the "intensified swab testing in high-risk areas" recommended by the local government. In this regard, legislator Cai Biru stated that the local health bureau is responsible for the footprint of the confirmed cases. However, there have been too many epidemic investigations recently, which has also caused the Central Epidemic Command Centre to be unable to manage the investigations. Therefore, Taiwan's epidemic prevention policy will naturally fail.

Chen Shizhong's third failure was the vaccine procurement policy. Although President Tsai Ing-wen called for unity to prevent the epidemic and promised that "the vaccines ordered by Taiwan from abroad will be delivered in batches after June," and the first wave of domestic vaccines is expected to be available at the end of July. However, according to Taiwanese media CTWANT, the Tsai government had a black history of "vaccine bounce" before, and all this is still in the uncertain days.

Scholars and legislators all believe that the biggest breach of the epidemic prevention this time is actually caused by underestimating the enemy and stubborn "man-made calamities", and Chen Shizhong's three major failures have led to crises! Some doctors even admitted that even if Taipei were locked down at this stage, it is no longer possible to block the existing chain of community transmission. Now Su Zhenchang should have the courage to assume, go to the fire line to take over the command, and re-ready to fight, if the city is to be locked down, the city will be locked down!

Total 476 new covid cases in Vietnam since 27 April 2021

Bac Giang province in northern Vietnam has ordered the closure of four industrial parks until further notice due to the severe covid epidemic. Those affected include Taiwan's Foxconn, which produces computers and mobile phones for Apple.

The Bac Giang Provincial Government hopes that the relevant measures will only be implemented for two weeks, but everything depends on how the epidemic develops.

Foxconn has factories in three of the industrial parks. Foxconn confirmed that the operations of these plants have been suspended, but emphasized that this has little effect on the company's operations throughout Vietnam.

Bac Giang Province, about 60 kilometres away from Hanoi, has had 476 covid cases since 27 April 2021, accounting for one third of the country’s cumulative cases, many of which are factory workers.

People may have to be vaccinated regularly just like vaccination to prevent the flu. However, given that virus mutations have appeared in many countries, the specific development must continue to wait and see.

Woman wore plastic bag on the bus, netizens hotly discuss: double protection

A woman wearing a plastic bag on the bus a few days ago caused heated discussions among netizens. Netizens with good eyesight also noticed that in addition to plastic bag, woman also wore a mask, sighing: This is really double protection. But this matter turned out to have "inside information".

The photo shared by ROADS.sg on the Facebook page on 19 May 2021 shows a woman sitting on a bus wearing a NTUC plastic bag from NTUC's affordable supermarket and opening two small holes in the corner of her eyes, and her mouth knotted. It can be vaguely seen from the photo that she is still wearing a mask.

ROADS.sg reporter wrote in the post that he was shocked by this scene.

Netizens with good eyesight noticed that this woman was wearing a mask in addition to a plastic bag, and sighed, "Maybe this double protection makes her feel safe."

Another commented, saying that this is over-protection and is really "fear of losing"!

However, some netizens explained that the photos posted online were cropped, and the truth is that a passenger without a mask was sitting behind the woman.

From the uncropped photos, it can be seen that there is an elderly man sitting behind the woman, who is not wearing a mask. The woman added the plastic bag to "self-protect" out of fear.

On the other hand, many netizens expressed concern about the safety of this woman, hoping that she would not fall when getting off the car, and also concerned about whether she could breathe normally.

Some netizens also joked that NTUC should find this woman as a brand endorsement because she found a new use for a supermarket shopping bag.

Many netizens worry that this post will give children a bad demonstration. Children may not understand the danger of suffocation when wearing a plastic bag on their heads.

Up to now, the post has more than 1,400 likes, has been reposted more than 690 times, and accumulated more than 250 comments.
