Taiwanese businessman in Thailand suspected of being diagnosed returned to Taoyuan by EVA Air flight BR212

Taiwan's representative office in Thailand issued a document on 3 May 2021 stating that a Taiwanese businessman was diagnosed in Bangkok but was not admitted to the hospital. He immediately boarded EVA Air flight BR212 for Taoyuan. He had a fever as soon as he entered the airport. He is currently being hospitalized in Taiwan.

The Taiwanese businessman from Thailand revealed that he was worried about Thailand’s poor medical resources. He said that he would return to Taiwan for medical treatment anyway. The command centre explained whether he was returning to Taiwan to hide the epidemic. At present, the two rows of passengers have been quarantined.

The notice of the representative office in Thailand is urgent. It was issued on Facebook stating that the Health Bureau of Chachoengsao, Thailand notified on 1 May that a Taiwanese businessman surnamed Shen was diagnosed but he could not be contacted for a long time. After verification, it was discovered Shen had already boarded flight BR212 and entered Taoyuan.

Diagnosed Taiwanese businessman fled to Taoyuan: Worry about Thailand's medical resources

When Shen was at the airport, he developed fever and was taken to the hospital for treatment after getting off the plane. He said, "Another Taiwanese businessman contacted him on the phone. He said in the group, he talked to him, and he said that regardless of whether he was diagnosed or not, he would go back to Taiwan for treatment, but in fact, this is what happened before the diagnosis.”

After the news came out, Taiwanese businessmen in Thailand were worried. He said that the Taiwanese businessperson named Shen was worried about Thailand's medical resources. He once said that he would return to Taiwan regardless of whether he was diagnosed or not. For treatment, another Taiwanese businessman also said that on 1 and 2 May, the man surnamed Shen is a Taiwanese businessman. He had an appointment with him to play basketball. This also caused the outside world to question whether this Taiwanese businessman surnamed Shen was a sneak peek when he flew to Taiwan.

Chen Zongyan, deputy commander of the command centre, said, "Did he violate relevant regulations in Thailand? He is not a confirmed person who boarded the plane. Follow-up investigation will be conducted to clarify."

Whether Shen has violated the regulations, the command center explained that everything needs to be investigated. Also rushed the same flight are two rows of passengers. EVA Air also responded, the message was mainly from the command center, but Thailand had a third wave of outbreaks in early April, with a total of more than 60,000 confirmed cases by 2 May, which also shocked the Taiwanese businessmen.

Taiwanese businessmen in Thailand said, "Try not to see each other, especially in this wave (epidemic). Thailand has three waves (epidemic) now, and this wave is the most serious (epidemic)."

The diagnosis of Taiwanese businessmen in Thailand has once again triggered tensions among Taiwanese businessmen. The representative office in Thailand also called on relatives and friends who have contact to be inspected as soon as possible to ensure their own safety.

Novotel's outsourced hydropower supplier may be the source of infection? Chen Shizhong: Had dinner at B1

Editor : Zheng Yurong / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

The infection groups of China Airlines pilots and Novotel Hotel continued to expand. The Central Epidemic Command Centre announced 2 local cases on 3 May, of which 1145 was an outsourced hydropower supplier of Novotel Hotel.

Commander Chen Shizhong said in an interview on 4 May that, after understanding, it was possible that Case 1145 had a meal at B1 while he was working at the Novotel Hotel.

According to information from the command center, Case 1145 is a 40-year-old male who is a staff member of an outsourcer of Novotel Hotel. From the 1 to 28 April, he worked at the hotel except for vacations. The case was 28 April. He developed cough on 30 April and went to the clinic for medical treatment on that day. After investigation and assessment by the health unit on 1 May, he arranged for medical examination on the same day and was diagnosed on the 3rd (Ct value 13).

Chen Shizhong revealed today that most of the construction sites of Case 1145 are staff members, and it is known that they may have eaten together at B1. The media asked if Case 1145 had been to B1, was it possible that he was infected because of contact with the confirmed catering staff or other personnel? He replied that there are various possibilities but related clarifications are needed.

At present, 74 related outsourcers and their family members have been placed under quarantine, and the inspection will be completed as soon as possible.

The genetic sequence of the infected is different! Chen Shizhong: Suspected multiple sources of infection

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

on 3 May 2021, Taiwan added new local covid cases, including a hydropower outsourcer. The command centre commander Chen Shizhong said that there is no way to clarify the source of the spread, but there are several possibilities. Although the virus enters the community from the community, this is the lowest possibility, or the hotel infection group was caused by multiple foreign infected pilots entering the restaurant.

Judging from the current genetic sequencing of the virus, the five infected pilots have the same genetic sequencing as the one in charge of the hotel, but there are some gaps in the genetic sequencing of the two confirmed cases. So it is not ruled out that multiple foreign sources of infection might have entered the airport hotel restaurant.

The risk of community infection hit a new high! Is the Novotel hotel infected with the virus on different floors? Doctors expose 3 possibilities

The employees of the China Airlines Novotel Taoyuan Airport Hotel have been diagnosed one after another. On 3 May, a contractor’s hydropower engineering staff (case 1145) was also infected. Chen Shizhong, commander of the Central Epidemic Command Centre, said at a press conference that case 1145 was in the hotel. The 3rd, 5th, and 6th floors of the first hall are under construction. The floors are undergoing renovation, and no home quarantine persons are admitted.

Infected even without contact? Doctors expose 3 possibilities

The command centre pointed out that Case 1145 was a 40-year-old man who worked at the hotel from early April to 28 April except on vacation. He developed cough on 28 April and went to the clinic on 30 April to seek medical treatment on 1 May. After the investigation and evaluation by the health unit, medical examination was arranged on the same day, and the diagnosis was confirmed on the 3rd, with a Ct value of 13.

Chen Shizhong pointed out that the home quarantine persons of the Novotel Hotel mainly live in the second hall, while the first hall is stratified, which means that Case 1145 did not directly contact the confirmed persons. Even so, why is case 1145 still infected?

News (8)

Three possibilities of infection source

Xie Zongxue, Director of the Children's Emergency Department of the Hospital of Sun Yat-sen Medical University, posted on Facebook to analyze three possibilities:

 1. Indirect contact infection caused by virus contamination of the hotel environment.
2. Actually, someone who has been in contact with the confirmed case has not been investigated.
3. The man was not infected in a restaurant.

The hotel environment is all negative and the chain of infection has not been clarified
Xie Zongxue said that he originally thought that the first point was the most likely cause, but the command center announced the results of the environmental inspection of the Novotel Hotel. All 432 places in the first and second halls were negative. There is no evidence to confirm this speculation.

When interviewed by the media today, Chen Shizhong said that most of the place where Case 1145 was constructed were staff members, and it is known that they may have had a meal at B1. As for whether the infection was caused by contact with other confirmed employees? He responded that there are various possibilities, but related clarifications are needed. At present, 74 related outsourcers and their family members have been placed under quarantine.

Community risk hits a new high! Medical worry: the next step is the abyss

At present, a total of 26 people have been diagnosed in the cluster incident of China Airlines and Novotel, including as many as 16 local cases, and a total of 1441 contacts in home quarantine. "This crisis poses the greatest risk to the community since the epidemic." Xie Zongxue worries that many confirmed patients had a large number of activities in the community before being quarantined. If infected persons of unknown origin are found in the hospital in the future, Taiwan will enter the community epidemic level.

Why did the Novotel hotel detonate the epidemic situation? Medical warning: Staying in a hotel, beware of 4 things with more viruses

The cluster cases of China Airlines pilots and the Novotel Hotel detonated the local epidemic situation. Whether Novotel caused the risk of community transmission, even Commander Chen Shizhong did not dare to assert that there was no community transmission, and even said that the community alert should be observed in mid-May. Why did the Novotel hotel break the epidemic? The doctor also reminded that there are four things in the hotel that are heavily contaminated with viruses.

News (11)

"Housekeeping staff" are most vulnerable to the virus

Huang Xuan, a specialist in thoracic and critical illness, pointed out that the high-risk groups in the hotel are not guests or hotel receptionists but "housekeeping staff." Just like Novotel’s first confirmed employee case 1120, a housekeeping supervisor.

Huang Xuan explained that the researchers found that the virus can easily spread throughout the hotel and guests and room cleaners can easily spread the virus from a contaminated room to other guest rooms and public areas. Further research found that in the "cleaning process", room cleaners are more likely to spread the virus from a contaminated room to another room. The reason is that the dirtiest things are when the cleaners put a pile of cleaning supplies on the "cleaning push" inside the cart!

In other words, if a China Airlines pilot comes back from another high-risk country with the virus and checks into an anti-epidemic hotel for quarantine, when the quarantine days are over and the pilot checks out, the room has been contaminated with the virus for many days; then it is the turn of the room to be cleaned.

The staff came to clean, accidentally their hands and cleaning tools were also covered with viruses... and then they continued to clean one after another before returning to the housekeeping studio, and continued to spread to the supervisor and other unknowing hotels. The housekeeping staff, of course, will continue to leave the virus to the next occupant.

Be careful of 4 places in the guest room: Light switch, remote control, bedside light switch, telephone button

Huang Xuan reminded that the dirtiest items in the hotel are the cleaning carts, sponges and mops of the room cleaners. They may use the same sponge or rag to wipe the items in the room, including light switches, telephone buttons, and remote controls. Bedside light switches, and many doorknobs... the virus will cross stream in these rooms.

Therefore, the dirtiest things encountered in the guest room are the "light switch, remote control, bedside lamp switch, telephone button"; and the "floor" cleaned in the bathroom, as well as "bathtub or sink, toilet"  etc is the dirtiest in the bathroom. According to research, the least polluted in the hotel is the "curtain rod" that most people do not touch.

6 principles to reduce the spread of viruses in restaurants

How to reduce virus pollution in restaurants? Huang Xuan suggested the following:

1. Use disposable cleaning supplies
Gloves, sponge cloths, and cleaning supplies are recommended to be disposable, so as not to pollute other guest rooms.

2. Clean the cart first
The cleaning cart may be divided into two, one is completely clean, the other is polluted. Not clean and dirty things should be all put into the same cleaning vehicle. Of course, the cleaning cart itself often needs to be disinfected.

3. Environmental disinfection
Cleaning and disinfection is one of the ways to effectively reduce the source of infection. 70% alcohol or chlorine-containing disinfectants (such as bleach, bleach powder) can be used for disinfection.

4. Put disinfection supplies in the guest room
Studies have shown that as long as you put disinfectant in the guest room, guests will use it, especially during the pandemic. Just putting the disinfectant in the guest room can reduce the spread of the virus by 69%.

5. Personnel sensory control education and training
Educating room cleaners can reduce virus pollution by 87%.

6. Wash your hands frequently
Hand washing is an indispensable action in daily healthy life but in the case of a global pandemic, everyone has to be more diligent and implement it.

Footprints of the China Airlines pilot and flight attendant (Cases 1153 and 1154)

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

There are two more footprints of people diagnosed with covid in Taipei! Case 1153, a China Airlines pilot in his 30s, was on duty to the U.S. from 16 to 18  April. After returning to Taiwan, he was quarantined at home until 21 April. This time this is because of the pilot project’s retrospective inspection. He developed fever, cough, and runny nose on 1 May, and was diagnosed on 4 May. On 29 April, he went to a dart sports bar on Nanjing East Road in Taipei with the confirmed flight attendant. Later, he went to Haizhen’s private kitchen Minsheng store to dine alone. The Epidemic Command Center announced that was in the early morning of 29 April (the exact time is still under investigation).

The China Airlines pilot went to the HOMIES SOFT BAR darts sports bar, located in Lane 250, Section 5, Nanjing East Road, Songshan District, Taipei City. It is not clear how long the pilot spent here. Case 1153, the China Airlines pilot, was spending time at the darts sports bar. Case 1154, the female China Airlines flight attendant who was infected, also came to the bar to meet up. The two left the darts sports bar together afterwards. At 6.30 pm on 29 April, the pilot of Case 1153 of China Airlines went to Haizhen’s private kitchen Minsheng store located at Lane 130, Section 3, Minsheng East Road, Songshan District.

However, the female flight attendant Case 1154 was not accompanied.

Homies SOFT BAR only posted the activity footprint of Case 1136 on the official Facebook website today, and reminded netizens who have been to these places, "Be careful of your physical condition and don't run around.  Especially if you come to me, can you go somewhere else?”

As a result, now that the pilot confirmed the case, it has become one of the footprints announced by the epidemic command center, and the industry may also have to be disinfected.

The Epidemic Command Centre reminded that people who have been to these two places must carry out self-monitoring for 14 days. If there are suspected symptoms such as fever before 13 May, please wear masks and seek medical treatment as soon as possible, and take the initiative to inform the doctor about their activities history.

Miserable Taiwanese businessman from Thailand! Fake negative virus report, command centre to check

Editor : Zheng Yurong / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

According to the information of Taiwan's representative office in Thailand, a Taiwanese businessman was diagnosed with covid in Thailand but he was not admitted to the local hospital for treatment. Instead, he took an EVA Air flight back to Taiwan the next day after the diagnosis. He already had fever when he entered the country.

Commander Chen Shizhong stated on 4 May that the Taiwanese businessman confirmed the infection as case 1149, which is one of the 6 newly imported cases from overseas today, but according to their investigation, the Taiwanese businessman has not yet been diagnosed in Thailand. The inspection report may be forged out of fear or high suspicion. So the negative inspection report was forged into the country.

The command centre pointed out that Case 1149 was a male Taiwanese businessman in his 50s. He went to work in Thailand in January this year and returned to China on 2 May. He had a fever when he entered the country (38.2 degrees), was intercepted at the airport and sent to a doctor for isolation for examination. The diagnosis was confirmed today (Ct value 25). There are 49 people who have been in contact with the flight in the case, of which 28 are passengers in two rows of front and rear seats, and are isolated at home.

The remaining 21 are EVA Air crew members, all with appropriate protection and self-health monitoring.

Chen Shizhong said that the Taiwanese’s negative nucleic acid test certificate within 3 days before boarding should be forged, and the flight crew were very dissatisfied with this.

After their understanding, the Taiwanese has not yet been diagnosed in Thailand and has not yet received a confirmed test report. "But he may be very worried, knowing that he will have a 3-day negative test report when he comes back, whether he bought it or made it himself. , But Thailand has given us a formal verification report, and the two are different."

Chen Shizhong said that the Taiwanese businessman entered the country without a negative test report, and his behaviour even involved forgery of documents. This part will be discussed with the legal system. As for whether there is a hidden epidemic, this needs to be clarified.
