It is reported that Rajendra Kapila, an American Indian infectious disease expert, was infected with SARS-CoV-2 (covi, CCP virus, novel coronavirus) on Monday (3 May 2021) and died in India. Before returning to India, he had completed two doses of vaccination.

Robert Schwartz, a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, tweeted on Monday to confirm the news and mourned Kapila’s family.

According to mainland Chinese media, quoting people familiar with the matter, the reason why Kapila returned to India from the United States this time was to take care of her elderly father-in-law. Before departure, he had completed two doses of Pfizer vaccine but unfortunately, he was quickly diagnosed as infected with the CCP virus, which caused the attention of the outside world.

As of Monday, the number of newly confirmed cases in India in a single day has exceeded 300,000 for the 12th consecutive day, and the total number of infections has exceeded 20 million. Domestic hospitals are full, medical oxygen is in short supply, and temporary crematoriums can be seen everywhere. The tragedy is shocking.

A model of a government advisory group shows that India’s CCP virus cases may reach a peak this week because the virus is spreading faster than expected. However, medical experts believe that the actual number of infections may be 5 to 10 times higher than the reported data.

However, at present, there are still different opinions on the effectiveness of the vaccine, and many people experience serious side effects or even death after being vaccinated.

US federal officials stated on 15 April that after full vaccination, about 5,800 Americans were still infected with the CCP virus and caused complications. Of these, nearly 400 needed hospitalization and 74 died.

The CDC told the media that these Americans have either completed two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or received one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In addition, since Hong Kong began mass vaccination of the CCP virus domestic vaccine at the end of February, at least 22 people have died, of which 18 people have been vaccinated with CoronaVac and 4 people have been vaccinated with BioNTech vaccine.
