The CDC checked the close contacts of the two people in Yingkou and found that 5 cases of nucleic acid tests were positive. These 5 people are all employees of Golden Childhood Photography Base.

To this end, Yingkou  announced that it will implement closed management of 8 key communities and launch nucleic acid testing for all employees; implement traffic control at expressway intersections and not leave the area if it is not necessary. Those who need to leave the area must hold a 72-hour nucleic acid test report. Cargo vehicles entering and exiting are managed in a closed manner, and those accompanying the vehicles are not allowed to get off. During the control period, vehicles are forbidden to enter the demarcation of the administrative area of the fish circle, and the end of control will be notified separately.

Taipei and New Taipei officially entered the third level of alert. The 4 screening stations opened by Wanhua, a hot spot, were overwhelmed. The Central Epidemic Command Centre held a press conference and pointed out that the positive rate of screening was 10%, which is equivalent to 1 case for every 10 people who tested positive.

Wanhua, a hot zone, set up 4 quick screening stations. The screening targets include homeless people. When they opened at 4 pm today, there was a long queue of people, and the number of positive tests surged. The command centre stated that all 46 quick screening stations in the Zhongxing Hospital yesterday were positive. There are 16 people in Bopiliao, a total of 525 people were tested, and the positive rate was 10%.

Those who are tested positive in rapid screening will be immediately arranged for isolation and hospitalization but they will not be immediately identified as the basis for diagnosis. PCR testing must be done later but they will be treated as highly suspected cases. If there are not enough isolation wards, they will first go to the epidemic prevention hotel or wait for beds in a centralized quarantine station and they will basically not stay for too long.

Commander Chen Shizhong also urged the public to avoid unnecessary movement or gatherings. There is no need to go for testing if they are completely asymptomatic. Now they cannot be picked up if they are tested.

Going to the screening stations may cause infection risks. At present, there are always long queues at screening stations. The 180 newly-added local cases today are 68 men and 112 women, ranging in age from under 5 to over 80. The onset and examination dates are between 23 April and 14 May, and the counties and cities of residence are 89 in Taipei. There are 75 cases in New Taipei, 6 cases in Changhua County, 4 cases each in Yilan County and Taoyuan County, and 1 case each in Taichung and Keelung City. Related epidemic investigations are ongoing.

In fact, the commander Chen Shizhong bluntly stated at a press conference yesterday (14 May) that "there are a few fires that are burning very high." In fact, there are difficulties in the investigation of the epidemic. The seven new cases of unknown source of infection yesterday were suspected to be related to Wanhua Groups because most of the whereabouts in that area are relatively obscure and it takes a while to find out or through other information to get clear whereabouts.

Passengers from high-risk areas will use different arrival halls of Changi Airport

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Faced with the rising trend of local covid cases in Singapore, Changi Airport will strengthen epidemic prevention through four aspects to protect Singapore's public health.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore issued a statement today (15 May) explaining the situation of the Changi Airport coronavirus infection group, stating that there were 35 confirmed airport staff and no one had severe symptoms.

According to the statement, 10,000 employees at the airport have completed the covi swab test, and most of the results are negative.

Next, Changi Airport will strengthen epidemic prevention through four aspects.

First, separate passengers
Passengers from high-risk countries and regions will use different arrival halls, luggage conveyor belts and toilets to separate them from passengers from low-risk countries and regions.

In addition, the authorities will also escort passengers from high-risk countries and regions to an independent health inspection center for arrival testing to prevent them from contacting other passengers and staff.

Second, vaccination
Ninety percent of the frontline staff at the airport have completed the vaccination, and the authorities will expedite the vaccinations for the remaining 10% of the frontline staff who have not been vaccinated.

Different groups of employees will have different rest areas, and each group of employees will also be separated. For those employees who work in areas with a higher risk of infection, the airport will arrange meals for them.

Third, test employees
The authorities will then test about 8,000 office employees in the Changi Airport Terminal.

Fourth, expand disinfection
The third terminal of Changi Airport has been closed for cleaning and disinfection since the 10th of this month. Work in this area is also underway at Starlight Changi.

Next, the scope of cleaning and disinfection will be extended to transit areas, especially those areas where airport staff are suspected of being infected.

Yingkou announced on the evening of the 14th that there were 2 new confirmed cases and 3 asymptomatic infections, and 9 places have been listed. It is a medium-risk area. Party media said that at present, Liaoning Province has selected 30 experts to support Yingkou.

On the evening of May 14, Jin Li, the deputy mayor of Yingkou, Liaoning Province, stated at a press conference on epidemic prevention and control that there were two new local confirmed cases in Yingkou from midnight to 7 pm that day, each of which was a 30-year-old woman Li X Xinhe Li Xshuai, a 28-year-old man.

There were also 3 new local asymptomatic infections, including 30-year-old woman Guo Xyue, 41-year-old woman Chen Xqiu, and 28-year-old woman Sun Xying. The five people are all employees of the Golden Childhood Photography Base, all of whom are close contacts of the previously confirmed cases of Li Xing and Lu X in Lu'an, Anhui.

At present, 5 people have been transferred to the Third Hospital of Yingkou for further treatment.

Yingkou Mayor Xu Guiqing said during the interview that the two confirmed cases were mainly concentrated in a photo studio in Yingkou, where training was conducted throughout the day, and their contact time was relatively close. Judging from the announcement of confirmed cases, it is possible that the epidemic chain will be relatively long, so related mechanisms have been activated.

Yingkou will expand the scope of inspection and control. The local area will focus on a comprehensive investigation of confirmed cases and asymptomatic infections of close contacts and sub-closed contacts, launch national testing, and increase isolation control.

In addition, according to the existing regional distribution of cases and risk level standards, the local government has classified Yangdian Village, Chentun Town, Gaizhou City, Yicheng Community, Xiongyue Town, Bayuquan District, Heping Community, Zhanqian Community, Beiguan Community, Happy Community, and Shengli Community. Nine places including the village, Lihua village, and Liming village are classified as medium-risk areas.

According to the CCP media, at present, Liaoning Province has selected 30 experts to support Yingkou, and a team of 102 people has been working overnight with local personnel in Yingkou. Zhang XX, 29, used to attend classes during the training and ate with Li XX.

Nucleic acid tests for all employees were immediately carried out in the local area, and closed management was implemented in 8 key communities, and the expressway was also subject to traffic control. Hefei City has also launched an emergency plan, delineated control areas, implemented closed management, and suspended mass gathering activities.

According to mainland Chinese media, starting from the 14th, the epidemic risk level of the East Zhejiang Commercial City in Jin'an District of Lu'an and the Baichuan Mingting Community in Yu'an District will be adjusted to medium risk, and the low risk levels of other regions in the two districts will remain unchanged; Feixi County, Hefei, The Jinyun International Commercial and Residential Building in the satellite community of Pai Town was adjusted to a medium risk area.

The National Health Commission of the CCP sent an expert team to Anhui to guide the development of epidemiological investigation and traceability, nucleic acid testing, community prevention and control, and nosocomial infection prevention and control.

In addition, Xicheng District, Beijing, on the 14th also received a notice from the Lu'an CDC that a family of three in the area was a contact of a confirmed patient in Lu'an.

Since the CCP is accustomed to concealing the epidemic, many people believe that the epidemic in various parts of China may not be able to conceal it. The CCP media emphasized that the confirmed case, Li XX had been to 3 provinces and 5 cities in the past 18 days, or to pave the way for public opinion on the outbreak of the nationwide epidemic.

On the eve of May Day, Wu Zunyou, the chief epidemiologist of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warned at a press conference on 29 April that Indian mutant strains were detected in some Chinese cities.

During the May 1st holiday, a total of 267 million people traveled abroad, an average of more than 53.47 million per day, a 122% increase over the same period last year.

After May 1st, the Chinese Communist Party’s Xinhua News Agency reported on 7 May that the Chinese Communist Party’s Center for Disease Control recommended that the public should observe themselves for 14 days after returning from travel. If suspicious symptoms appear, they should seek medical attention in time and actively inform the doctor of their travel history.

On 8 May, the CCP’s Health Commission also stated that the current situation of epidemic prevention and control is still severe and complicated, and the risk of the epidemic is rising, and the risk of mutated strains being introduced into China cannot be ignored.

On 9 May, the party media published Li Keqiang's speech at the State Council's Integrity Work Conference. He said that all localities must "see facts, openly and transparently release information, curb epidemics in key areas, and improve normalized prevention and control mechanisms."

From Li Keqiang, the National Health Commission to the Chinese Communist Party media, it seems that they are making predictions for a new round of the epidemic. Is this a coincidence?

[Tang Hao Vision] The host believes that this should be an official assessment that the epidemic may not be concealed. Therefore, public opinion has been prepared in advance, and the responsibility is to be transferred to foreign countries. Li Keqiang himself is also throwing the black pot of fraud against the epidemic back to Xi Jinping and various local governments.

Tang Hao said, “In fact, we learned from special authoritative channels that the three provinces in Northeast China, Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning, where the epidemic relapsed a while ago, still have epidemics but the authorities are covering them up. Moreover, China is still covering it up every day. Some people have died because of the epidemic. Therefore, please friends from all over China, we must not take it lightly."

India reported on Saturday (May 15) that the country’s single-day increase in infection cases has shrunk, but the death toll is still close to 4,000. At the same time, the World Health Organization warned the world that the covid pandemic may be more deadly in the second year than in the first year.

According to Reuters, in the past 24 hours, India has had 326,098 new cases of the CCP virus infection, the lowest increase in the past three weeks. The cumulative number of infections in the country reached 24.37 million. At the same time, the country has added 3,890 deaths in the past 24 hours.

But the slowdown in the number of infections may also be due to the country's low detection rate, which is at its lowest level since 9 May.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva that the second year of this pandemic may be more deadly than the first year, and India is a huge concern.

Tedros' above remarks were made in a video conference on Friday (14 May). Previously, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued an alarm about the rapid spread of COVID-19 in vast rural areas.

In the past week, India added about 1.7 million new cases and more than 20,000 deaths. Data from the Ministry of Health show that the total death toll is 266,207.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK will speed up its vaccination program in an attempt to contain the rapidly spreading Indian variant. The India variant virus may affect the reopening plan of the British economy.

Johnson’s comments were made shortly after India accepted the recommendation of a government group that proposed to extend the interval between the first and second doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the current 6 to 8 weeks. 12 to 16 weeks.

The UK is scheduled to lift all epidemic restrictions on 21 June 2021, and it is now uncertain due to the infection of the Indian variant virus in parts of the UK.

Johnson said that he does not believe that the schedule needs to be changed, but that "the new variant virus may seriously interfere with our progress" and that "we will do whatever it takes to maintain public safety."

Rumors of confirmed diagnoses spread wildly around. Chen Shizhong: Local footprints will be announced by county and city governments

Editor : Xu Rongyou / Direct translation

The Chief Executive Su Zhenchang inspected the command center in the afternoon and contacted the heads of counties and cities via video chat. Chen Shizhong, commander of the Central Epidemic Epidemic Command Center, revealed that he has coordinated with the county and city governments and will authorize each to publish the confirmed footprints of the county and city in the future.

The number of local confirmed cases of new crown pneumonia has skyrocketed, and Taipei and New Taipei epidemic prevention alert was also upgraded to level 3 today. Su Zhenchang inspected the epidemic command center again in the afternoon and participated in the video conference of the command center and the county and city governments. He hopes the central government and local governments work together to prevent the epidemic.

In response to the warming of the local epidemic, there are frequent news of confirmed cases across Taiwan. However, due to restrictions on epidemic prevention regulations, local governments can only speak in the same way, emphasizing that the command center publishes uniformly and has repeatedly encountered public complaints.

Chen Shizhong said that this matter was also discussed during the meeting, considering that the confirmed cases are reported to the central government after the local governments consolidate, and the epidemic prevention work has been implemented for nearly a year. The local governments are very concerned about which epidemic information should and should not be announced. Clearly, it is therefore decided in today’s meeting that relevant guidelines will be formulated to authorize localities to publish information on confirmed cases.

Chen Shizhong said that the command center will put forward guidelines, and the work of publishing the footprints of the confirmed persons will be published by the county and city governments. For example, the publication time and the published website will be unified for public inquiries. In the future, if counties and cities announce the footprints of confirmed cases, the county and city governments can respond to relevant issues on their own, and they should formulate implementation principles in this direction. He explained that the general footprint is explained by the county and city governments, and the more special conditions will be announced and explained by the command center, and the detailed implementation rules will be announced after coordination.

American doctor: Taiwan’s epidemic prevention information has stagnated and suggested to wear double-layer masks

Editor : Zhou Zixin / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

A Chinese-American physician, Justin Yang, posted on Facebook on 14 May that Taiwan’s epidemic prevention practices are still based on last year’s information and have not been updated with this year’s research. It is also strongly recommended that Taiwanese people can refer to the "double masking" method of the US CDC to effectively prevent the spread of the virus.

Justin directly pointed out in the post that Taiwanese disinfectants used "showers" to spray disinfection water on the streets, pointing out that this was just "the government sprayed to give people peace of mind." There is no scientific basis to prove that the covi virus can be prevented.

It was mentioned that the news media did not maintain social distancing when interviewing politicians, and that the epidemic prevention measures in public places only measured body temperature, and the government did not significantly reduce the number of visitors.

Justin also pointed out that Taiwanese rarely discuss the "double masking" research report released by the US Department of Disease Control (CDC) in February this year. According to Justin's article, in the US CDC report, it is recommended that people wear medical masks on the inner layer and general cloth masks on the outer layer when wearing masks, indicating that this wearing method can effectively reduce more than 90% of the spread.

After the report was released, many White House officials wore double-layer masks when attending public occasions, and Justin also shared it with Taiwanese people for reference.

Image : The CDC in the United States recommends that you can wear a double-layer mask, or you can tie the mask to another knot to effectively prevent droplet infection. (Photo/Intercepted from the official website of the US CDC)

According to a report released on the official website of the US CDC, the method of wearing double masks can not only make the masks more conformable, but also effectively reduce the risk of droplet infection.

The CDC also recommends that the public can tie an extra knot on the mask tying rope to make it more tightly worn.

The CDC also advises the public not to use two disposable masks as a double-mask wearing method, because the design of the disposable mask itself cannot fit tightly. Even if one more mask is worn, the fit will not be improved.

Image : People who wear N95 masks do not need to wear additional cloth masks. When wearing N95 masks, there is no need to add more masks on the outer layer (left), and two layers of disposable masks (right) cannot be worn at the same time. (Picture/Intercepted from the US CDC official website)

However, Zhang Shangchun, the convener of the command center expert advisory group, said that medical masks are sufficient to prevent the epidemic. He pointed out that the United States has done different tests and discussions for some time because of the supply of masks, but not to determine the specific purpose of the two-layer masks, one-layer medical masks are actually sufficient.

Chen Shizhong also said that medical masks have passed the inspection and are basically sufficient for epidemic prevention. He said that if the people can change their breath, they can wear a few more layers, but if they cannot change their breath, they will always take off the mask, which will form a breach in epidemic prevention.

Expert: Malaysia may have a local variant virus that is more contagious

Malaysian virologists pointed out that there may have been a more contagious local variant of the novel coronavirus.

The New Straits Times quoted Professor Shahjari, Director of the Center for Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education of the University of Malaya, as saying that the sequencing data provided by Sarawak experts showed that Sabah and Sarawak may have had variant viruses, and the University of Malaysia Infectious Disease Center also found two  suspected cases of an indigenous variant virus.

He pointed out that the current number of new cases is increasing, and many of them are asymptomatic and sporadic, which means that the transmission rate of the virus has increased relatively, and there may be one or more new variant virus strains.

Shajari said that the Malaysian Ministry of Health must work with the medical community to research and publish relevant genetic studies in order to effectively prevent the continued spread of such viruses.

The confirmed case in Shenyang drove with 12 people to Bayuquan on 3 May

At night of 15 May, the 35th press conference on the prevention and control of the epidemic in Shenyang City informed about the new cases:

1. The basic situation of the patient

XX, male, 61 years old, Chinese nationality, home address: Yiyuan Community, Wenyi Road, Heping District, Shenyang, a retired employee from Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University. He usually has a fitness center on the first floor of the Glide Campus of Shengjing Hospital Work alone in the office. I drove 3 cars to Bayuquan on May 3 with a total of 12 people in my family, stayed at Bayuquan Huajun Hot Spring Resort, and returned to Shenyang on 5 May.

At night of 14 May, the Gliding District of Shengjing Hospital carried out an active nucleic acid test for employees who recently returned from Yingkou and Bayuquan. At 11 am on 15 May, they reported that their nucleic acid test results were positive, and the Shenyang Municipal Health Commission started immediately. Transfer procedures, transfer patients to the Sixth People's Hospital of the city for further diagnosis and treatment. After consultation with the provincial medical expert group, it was diagnosed as a confirmed covid case (common type).

2. Current measures

One is to thoroughly investigate close contacts. The urban two-level disease control center has carried out a comprehensive investigation and investigation. Up to now, a total of 16 close contacts and 16 close contacts of close contacts have been investigated. The above-mentioned personnel are gradually being transferred to medical isolation points for centralized isolation medical observation. Collect specimens for nucleic acid testing, and the test results are to be reported.

The second is to scientifically delineate epidemic spots. Based on the patient’s trajectory and scope of activity, 14 epidemic spots were initially delineated, 300 environmental samples were collected, and viral nucleic acid testing was carried out. All epidemic spots were carried out by the urban two-level disease control center for terminal disinfection, and the disinfection effect was evaluated at the same time. Cut off the route of transmission and completely eliminate the risk of transmission. At present, the CDC is verifying and confirming the detailed itinerary of the patient with relevant departments such as public security before releasing it to the public.

The third is to scientifically and accurately delineate risk levels. In accordance with the work requirements of scientific delineation and precise management and control, combined with the patient's movement trajectory and scope of activity, and the city’s covid epidemic prevention and control expert group researched and demonstrated, it is planned to adjust the Yiyuan District, Wenyi Road, Heping District, Shenyang to a medium-risk area. It has been reported to the Provincial Headquarters for approval. At present, the region has strictly implemented various control measures in accordance with the smallest unit.

The fourth is to carry out traceability of confirmed cases. The source of infection of the case was preliminarily determined to be an imported case of infection inside and outside the province. The patient’s nucleic acid samples have been sent to the Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention to carry out related work such as virus sequencing and gene comparison to determine the source of infection.

The fifth is to strengthen early warning research and judgment. Pay close attention to the dynamic changes of the surrounding epidemic situation, activate the monitoring and early warning system, analyze and judge in time, and perform early warning and disposal; strengthen the coordination and linkage with public security, industry and information departments, use big data methods, rapid flow adjustment, precise traceability, and increase close inspection and control efforts. Eliminate the risk of the epidemic to the maximum at the fastest speed.

The sixth is to strengthen the control of key populations. At present, prevention and control measures such as isolation control and nucleic acid testing have been implemented for the returnees from medium and high risk areas in CCPC.

China CDC: Three Chongqing returnees suspected of being infected with B.1.617

Reporter : Hu Danping / Publisher : The Paper / http://news.sciencenet.cn/htmlnews/2021/5/457118.shtm / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

The spread of the novelew coronavirus mutation in India has attracted much attention, and the import risk in CCPC is also increasing. Recently, the “China CDC Weekly” (English) disclosed 3 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus entering Chongqing. Genome sequencing revealed that the virus infected by these 3 confirmed patients was a variant virus circulating in India. It is speculated that the infection may occur in India.

The above cases were disclosed in the paper "Emerging Variants of B.1.617 Lineage Identified Among Returning Chinese Employees Working in India — Chongqing Municipality, China, April 2021", the authors are from Chongqing CDC, China CDC, etc.

The paper shows that the three confirmed patients (aged between 20-30) are from the same mobile phone company, which has a production base in Noida, India, and they have been working with their Indian colleagues since the end of 2019. They are well protected in the workplace and are required to work in a dust-free environment. They have taken relevant preventive measures to deal with the covid pandemic in daily life in India.

According to an epidemiological investigation report, the trip of the three began on 19 April, when they chartered a car from Noida, India to Delhi, and transferred to Kathmandu, Nepal on the same day. They wore protective clothing, N95 masks, goggles and gloves throughout the trip.

In Kathmandu, they took a chartered car to their hotel and stayed there until 21 April. On the morning of the 21st, they took a chartered car to the airport and took adequate protective measures before flying to Chongqing.

The flow report showed that their nucleic acid tests in India were negative for many times, and the latest negative results of patient A and patient B were on 17 April, and the latest negative result of patient C was on 19 April.

In Chongqing, the three were transferred to the Chongqing Public Health Medical Center, a designated hospital for the treatment of covid. The body temperature of the three patients was normal, but the chest CT results suggested infectious disease, and they were diagnosed as new covid cases.

The paper shows that samples of confirmed patients have been sent to the Chongqing CDC, and sequenced from 28 to 30 April. The analysis of the genome sequence showed that these isolates belonged to the Pangolin lineage B.1.617, which is an emerging variant of India. The observed mutation sites in the 3 isolates are the same as the B.1.617.2 variant of India, which supports these 3 cases. The patients' infection may have occurred in India.

Confirm protein-coding genes and analyze mutations of mutant strains
The accurate and complete gene annotation map of SARS-CoV-2 is completed

Reporter : Liu Xia / Publisher : Science and Technology Daily / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology wrote in the journal Nature Communications published on the 11th that after conducting extensive comparative genomics research, they mapped out the most accurate and complete gene annotation map of the virus to date, which has confirmed several protein-coding genes, and it has also been found that some genes do not code for any protein. In addition, they also analyzed nearly 2,000 mutations produced by different strains of SARS-CoV-2 (covi, novel coronavirus, CCP virus), so as to better assess the importance of these mutations.

The covi genome is composed of nearly 30,000 RNA bases. Scientists have previously identified some genes that can encode proteins based on the similarity with protein-coding genes in related viruses. They believe that there are other genes that encode proteins, but they are not clearly classified as protein-coding genes.

In order to determine these protein-coding genes, an experimental team led by Professor Manolis Chris of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory used the computational technology developed by itself to analyze covi, the SARS virus and 42 strains of the bat Sabe virus subgenus.

The basic principle of this technology is to analyze whether certain DNA or RNA bases are preserved between species and to compare how they have evolved over time. They have previously used this technology to compare the human genome with the genomes of other mammals.

The results showed that in addition to the discovery of 5 genes previously found in other coronaviruses, Chris' team also confirmed 6 protein-coding genes in the covi genome, while the other 5 genes believed to code for proteins did not have this ability. . They said that after analyzing the entire genome, they are very sure that no other protein-coding genes have become "missing fish." They plan to continue experimental research to find out the function of these uncharacterized genes.

In addition, Chris' team also analyzed more than 1,800 mutations that have appeared since the new coronavirus was first discovered, and compared the evolution speed of each gene in the past and the evolution speed since the outbreak. The results showed that, in most cases, genes that evolved rapidly for a long time before the outbreak continued to evolve rapidly, and genes that evolved slowly also maintained their own rhythm. However, there are exceptions, which may help reveal how viruses have evolved as they adapt to new human hosts.

The researchers also analyzed mutations in several variants of covi- B.1.1.7, P.1 and B.1.351. It turns out that many mutations that make these mutations more dangerous are present in the spike protein, which helps the virus spread faster and avoid the immune system. They pointed out that each mutant strain has more than 20 unique mutations. Knowing which may be useful and which is not useful is very important to help scientists focus on the mutations that are most likely to have a significant impact on the infectivity of the virus.

Chinese experts develop covi neutralizing antibodies, which are expected to protect special populations and inhibit transmission

Reporter : Chen Jing, Shi Jiaqi / Publisher : China News Network / http://news.sciencenet.cn/htmlnews/2021/5/457445.shtm / Translation editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine in collaboration with Nankai University, Gaocheng Biology, Wuhan Institute of Viology and other units have jointly developed a covi neutralizing antibody P4A1-2A, which has a positive effect on the prevention and treatment of the new coronavirus. The reporter was informed on 15 May that the results of this research were published in the latest issue of the academic journal Nature Communications.

Rao Zihe, the first corresponding author of the paper, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and former president of Nankai University, pointed out, "For many years, in-depth research on structural biology has been playing an important role in the development of antiviral drugs. Covi-specific neutralizing antibodies-wise, the development of P4A1-2A shows how to use this expertise to explore effective antiviral treatments. We will make unremitting efforts to fight the novel coronavirus and other viruses that bring serious diseases to humans."

The new type of covid is caused by coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV2), which looks like a sphere full of small "cauliflowers". These "cauliflowers" are highly penetrating spike proteins. They are like a key that can accurately find the "keyhole" of the cell, allowing the virus to enter the cell to release genetic information, complete a large amount of virus replication, and make people sick. The effective neutralizing antibody can "paint" a thick "membrane" on the key tooth mark, which blocks the keyhole and prevents the virus from entering the cell.

When the covid epidemic broke out in 2019, Professor Sun Kun, a pediatric expert at Xinhua Hospital, and Huang Lisu, director of the infection department of the hospital, immediately discussed how to fight the epidemic scientifically with the top single-cell sequencing technology, and consider the issue of child protection. They will target direction was set on neutralizing antibodies. Subsequently, with the help of the serum of patients with the new crown during the recovery period, the joint research team screened 10 neutralizing antibodies from tens of thousands of choices, and finally selected the covi-specific neutralizing antibody P4A1-2A from them. The joint research team also completed the artificial synthesis and development of this neutralizing antibody "portrait".

According to the researchers, the antibody showed many advantages in subsequent preclinical trials. First, it has high affinity, which can effectively cover the "key tooth marks"; second, it is particularly efficient, and a single injection of low dose can show high antiviral activity. A single injection of neutralizing antibody P4A1-2A in rhesus monkeys infected with the new coronavirus can completely eliminate the virus. The broad spectrum is also the advantage of the antibody; the neutralizing antibody has a long half-life, can fight a "protracted battle", and is expected to fight against the new coronavirus infection for a long time; in addition, the antibody is well tolerated in phase I clinical trials, Security is better.

"We hope that this neutralizing antibody can quickly benefit patients, including those who cannot benefit from the vaccine or cannot be vaccinated, such as young children, the elderly and certain immune-compromised people." Sun Kun pointed out, "Like P4A1- Neutralizing antibodies such as 2A can not only protect these special populations from serious complications, but are also expected to inhibit the covi spread. We also envisage applying this antibody to emergency protection."

As the co-corresponding author of the paper, Professor Sun Kun, Dean of Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, said, "It is great to see the work of doctors in clinical research and to be able to efficiently cooperate and promote with the basic research team and the cross-transformation team. In order to quickly transform and develop this antibody, and promote it to the clinic."

China CDC Wang Huaqing: Covi vaccine research and development is difficult, and monitoring after successful research and development is more important

Reporter : Li Xiaoxiao / http://news.sciencenet.cn/htmlnews/2021/5/457635.shtm / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

"Everyone says that it is difficult to develop vaccines. In fact, I think that after the initial success of vaccine development, subsequent monitoring is more important." On 15 May 2021, the 3rd Biomedicine BIO50 Forum was held in Suzhou. Wang Huaqing, chief expert of the immunization program of the Committee and the China CDC said in his speech, "Thinking about the development and application of covi vaccines"monitoring capabilities are the key to evaluating a vaccine.

Wang Huaqing mentioned that monitoring includes two stages, one is the clinical trial stage, and the other is the post-marketing stage of the vaccine.

Regarding the monitoring in the clinical trial phase, Wang Huaqing mentioned for example that in the process of making vaccines, the monitoring of infection, morbidity, severe illness, death and other indicators is the prerequisite for evaluating the effectiveness of a vaccine. The question is whether these indicators can be fully monitored.

"When selecting countries for clinical trials, if the monitoring capabilities are not strong, the results obtained may be different. Even if we set the same standard, some infections and disease may not be monitored, which affects the effect of the research." Wang Huaqing Said.

Regarding the monitoring of the vaccine in the post-marketing stage, Wang Huaqing mentioned that vaccination is no longer a problem, but the monitoring may still face some challenges. If there are abnormal reactions, adverse events, etc., whether they can be discovered, reported, diagnosed in time, and made causal association judgments.

Wang Huaqing mentioned that some foreign vaccines have found adverse events related to thrombosis. He believes that the incidence of such incidents is relatively low in a few hundred thousandths, but it is very important to monitor this adverse reaction and see the difference with the mRNA covi vaccine, which shows the sensitivity of the monitoring system. Sex and specificity, sensitivity is whether it can be monitored, and specificity is whether the monitoring is accurate.

Wang Huaqing said that in addition to the importance of monitoring, the research and development and application of the new crown vaccine have also brought many enlightenments, such as the importance of basic research, the rapid advancement of new technologies, technical production process reserves, green channels for regulatory agencies, and rapid global information sharing. "My feeling is that the vaccine has made a breakthrough in a short period of time. Do you apply this experience to your usual work and research?"

In the past four weeks, more than half of the inbound cases from South Asia were permanent residents and returning Singaporeans

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

In the past four weeks, more than half of imported cases from South Asia were returning citizens or permanent residents, and only 3.3% were short-term visitors. The Ministry of Health pointed out that the invading Indian mutant strain may come from anyone, and not only Singapore is facing the problems caused by the Indian mutant strain.

The Ministry of Health issued a statement to clarify after receiving media inquiries about how many of the locally imported cases were short-term visitors.

The Ministry of Health pointed out that the World Health Organization has listed the B.1.617 variant strain as a variant strain worthy of global attention. According to statistics from the Global Influenza Data Sharing Initiative (GISAID), nearly 2,000 cases of infection have been found in Europe and 486 cases in the United States, 85 in Australia, 29 in Japan and 17 in China.

The Ministry of Health pointed out that this is also the main reason for the intensification of the epidemic in Asia, such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan. Even safer areas such as Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam have also experienced community transmission.

According to the Ministry of Health, these cases are derived from imported cases. Only one case can trigger a new wave of epidemics. No country can be completely closed, at least to allow citizens and residents to return home.

Take Singapore's inbound cases as an example. Among the 409 imported cases between 16 April and this month, 41.6% were local citizens or permanent residents, and 50.6% were holders of work permits, student cards or immediate family cards.  Only 7.8% of holders of short-term visit permits, and they must meet the specified conditions to enter the country.

In terms of the 271 cases imported from South Asia, local citizens or permanent residents accounted for 50.2%, holders of work permits, student cards or immediate family contacts accounted for 46.5%, and short-term visit permit holders only 3.3%.

The Ministry of Health pointed out that all entrants must receive strict home notification and testing but community transmission still occurs because the virus has broken through our security measures, especially at Changi Airport, and the invading virus may come from citizens and permanent residents, work permit holders, student card holders, immediate family card holders, or short-term visiting card holders.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that this is a challenge faced by all countries, because no one can completely close the borders.

TraceTogether portable device has high electromagnetic radiation? Authorities: lower than Bluetooth headsets

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Some netizens tested the combined efforts to track the electromagnetic radiation of the TraceTogether token device and questioned whether it was safe. The Government Bureau of Science and Technology (GovTech) responded that the public does not need to worry. The radiation energy of portable devices is lower than that of Bluetooth headsets and smart watches.

This netizen used a microwave detector to test the electromagnetic radiation of TraceTogether to track the portable device in the video. He pointed out that the radiation amount of the portable device was quite high, and reminded the netizen not to put the portable device too close to his body when he went out. So he chooses not to use a portable device.

The Government Science and Technology Bureau issued a post on Facebook on 15 May, stating that the public need not be worried because they work together to track the radiation of portable devices.

The authorities explained that the TraceTogether token tracking portable device uses Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), which radiates lower energy than many communication devices, such as mobile phones, Bluetooth headsets, and smart watches.

The authorities also revealed that the portable device has been tested by an independent laboratory and also meets Singapore's control standards for short-range equipment. The International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection also sets strict controls on this type of equipment.

The authorities also urge everyone not to misbelieve false information.

I tried aldara but nothing. but thank god for using Dr Ajayi as a helper to me who got me cured from my herpes with his natural herbal medicine, May god continue to bless you and keep giving you the power to help others.
