Three unpublished papers from WIV disclosed on Twitter, reviewers suspect laboratory accidents

Reporters : Amy, RFI, Zheng Gusheng, NTDTV / Extract translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

The French newspaper “Le Monde” recently published an article that the hypothesis of laboratory accidents as the possible origin of the Covid-19 pandemic is neither the majority nor the most probable theory but it is no longer a conspiracy theory. It disclosed a letter published in the magazine Science on 13 May 2021. About 20 senior scientists called for the possibility of examining this possibility in the same way as the natural overflow of "zoonosis". A coincidence in time, a few hours before the publication of this letter, three academic papers (one doctoral thesis and two master thesis) conducted by the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in recent years were disclosed on Twitter. The author of this tweet is the account of an anonymous scientist accustomed to making sensational disclosures.

The Le Monde article analyzes some of the doubts in these three papers. The three papers were written in Chinese and were defended in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Although the papers have never been published so far, they contain important information. According to experts consulted by Le Monde, these three papers questioned certain data that the international scientific community took for granted, and these data related to the number and nature of coronaviruses preserved by WIV, and related to the investigation of these viruses. The experiment even involved the integrity of the viral gene sequence published by WIV in recent months.

Virginie Courtier, a researcher at the Jacques-Monot Institute (CNRS) in France, pointed out, "We know that the researchers of Wuhan Institute of Virology will not disclose all the data they have. But this time the problem goes further. Their previous statements related to these theses seem to be contradictory."

RaTG13 or Ra4991?

One of the main findings of this work involves the virus named RaTG13, which is the closest known coronavirus to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) so far but at the same time it is too far away to become its closest ancestor.

The complete gene sequence of this virus, which has 96.2% homology with SARS-CoV-2, was published in the journal Nature on 3 February 2020 by researchers from WIV but a few weeks later, an Italian microbiologist reported at a virology forum that a small part of the RaTG13 genome had been published by researchers in Wuhan in 2016. Moreover, the related virus was not called RaTG13, but Ra4991. In July 2020, in an interview with Science, Shi Zhengli, a virologist and director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) Research Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, confirmed that this is the same virus but was renamed RaTG13 in 2020.

However, Etienne Decroly, a virologist at the French Research Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), pointed out that the data in the paper shows that the RaTG13 sequence published in 2020 is not strictly the same as the Ra4991 sequence, which is contrary to the statement of WIV. The researcher explained, "In the 2019 defense paper, different regions of the bat coronavirus genome, including Ra4991, were compared with the corresponding regions of the human severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1). "The analysis of the paper shows that the main difference lies in the part of the genome that corresponds to the spike, which is the protein that allows the virus to enter its host cell. "The researcher explained, "This represents a 1% to 1.5% change in this segment of the genome, which is very important, equivalent to 10 to 15 mutations in a field that plays a key role in the infectivity of the virus. "

Why is there such a difference between sequences that should be the same? The management of WIV did not respond to the request of Le Monde for a statement of clarification.

The original data is "not enough to reconstruct the genome"

The Le Monde article pointed out that since the integrity of this cousin sequence closest to SARS-CoV-2 has been at the core of many issues since its publication, it is even more important. However, Virginie Courtier, a researcher at the French Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), explained, "Researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology said that they no longer have the corresponding biological samples, so it is no longer possible to reproduce the sequencing work. In addition, scientists have for a long time asked the researchers of the Wuhan virus institute to explain how they obtained the complete sequence of RaTG13, because the original data published by the Institute is not sufficient to reconstruct the genome."

The author went on to point out that if RaTG13 is so important to the scientific community, it is also because of the place where it was collected in 2013, an abandoned mine in Mojiang, Yunnan. In this mine where bat colonies are frequent, six workers contracted a lung disease in the spring of 2012 with symptoms similar to SARS or Covid-19. Three of the six died. Are they infected with bat coronavirus? How many SARS-like coronaviruses have been found in the famous Mojiang mining area? Is there a virus that is even closer to SARS-CoV-2 than the famous RaTG13?

In November 2020, due to external pressure, researchers from WIV published an article in the journal Nature that in addition to RaTG13, they also collected 8 other SARS-like coronaviruses from the Mojiang mining area, but not all these coronaviruses were disclosed, only RaTG15 (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.05.21.445091v1.full.pdf; https://staygate.blogspot.com/2021/05/wiv-ratg15-and-seven-other.html) on 25 May 2021. StayGate summarized the WIV experts' findings on 27 May 2021. The previous three papers show that at least one more coronavirus is kept in WIV but its existence has not yet been disclosed.

But this is not all. In the clarification requested by the journal Nature, researchers from WIV assured that they received and analyzed 13 blood samples from 4 workers who were sick in the Mojiang mining area in 2012 but they could not detect any signs of coronavirus infection. ——The current version supported by WIV (also used in the WHO-China joint report issued at the end of March) is that these people may be infected with fungal pathogens. However, the leaked paper again shows that this is not the case. Among the three papers, according to the 2014 version, WIV received not 13 but 30 samples and analyzed them all.

According to reports, among the three papers, the 2017 PhD thesis is the top; it uses a chimeric virus construction technology, which is a "copy and paste" method. One of the goals of Chinese researchers is to test the infectivity of different coronaviruses on several types of human or animal cells, depending on the spores grafted onto the same virus backbone.

The author of the paper wrote, "In order to estimate the potential threat of SARS-like bat coronaviruses to humans, we selected 12 S (i.e. spike coding) genes from different coronavirus strains and inserted them into WIV1 (another type)." In the genome framework of coronavirus, the author said, "We successfully obtained four of them and named them Rs4231, Rs4874, Rs7327 and RsSHC014 strains. "

However, French researcher Etienne Decroly said, "The research published in the journal PLoS Pathogens in 2017 detailed this work, but did not fully introduce them.

Put pressure on the Chinese government

Le Monde pointed out that the disclosure of these three papers should increase pressure on the Chinese authorities. "Etienne Decroly said: "Now is the time for the Wuhan Institute of Viology to open its database to the entire scientific community. "

In a letter published on 13 May in Science, nearly 20 American researchers made the same request. David Relman, a microbiologist at Stanford University, and Jesse Bloom, a virologist at the University of Washington, and their 16 co-authors demanded, "Public health agencies and research laboratories must open their archives to the public. Investigators must be able to record analysis and gains. The authenticity and source of the data that came to the conclusion must be disclosed."

American microbiologist caused concern for authoring research article on coronavirus

Microbiologist Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was listed among the signatories to cause concern. Because Dr. Barrich is not only one of the world's most famous experts in coronavirus and species barrier crossing mechanisms, but he has also worked closely with WIV. In 2015, he and Wuhan researchers jointly published a study in "Natural Medicine" that was a sensation: The author of this research article succeeded in constructing a pathological chimeric virus that can highly infect human on the basis of bat coronavirus.

This work sparked controversy and was reported in Nature, describing it as "risky."

The article quotes Alina Chan, a molecular biologist at the Broad Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, who believes that: "Ralph Barrich has done this type of research himself, and he recognizes this. It may come from the laboratory. Such a hypothesis needs to be investigated. We cannot find another scientist with more direct expertise unless we can get Shi Zhengli to sign the letter. "In fact, more and more celebrities advocate conducting such investigations. Alina Chan said, "The purpose of this letter is to provide scientific support for those who are capable of launching international investigations. They will be able to refer to it, saying that some top scientists in related fields believe that a strict investigation of the laboratory accident hypothesis is needed. "

Shi Zhengli's lie is suspected to be exposed

Shi Zhengli, a researcher at WIV and others have been endorsing the natural origin of SARS-CoV-2, but they have been questioned about forging evidence to cover up the truth. A few days ago, three unpublished doctoral and master's dissertations from WIV were exposed on Twitter, and their contents were obviously inconsistent with the public statements of the Institute.

An Italian microbiologist reported that a small part of the RaTG13 genome was published by WIV researchers in 2016, but it was not called RaTG13 at the time, but Ra4991. In July 2020, Shi Zhengli accepted Science interview and also claimed in the interview that this is the same virus, but it will be renamed RaTG13 by 2020.

However, experts found that among the above three papers, the Ra4991 virus sequence was used in the 2019 defense but it is not exactly the same as the RaTG13 sequence published in 2020.

As for why there are differences between sequences that should have been the same, WIV did not respond to the inquiry from Le Monde.

Qin Peng, a commentator in the United States, pointed out on Twitter that this may indicate that the RaTG13 sequence was deliberately fabricated by Shi Zhengli and others to deceive the world.

Earlier, Yan Limeng, a Chinese virologist in exile in the United States, also bluntly stated that the sequences of viruses such as RaTG13 were fabricated by the CCP to promote the "natural origin of viruses".

Le Monde quoted the analysis of experts and pointed out that the completeness of the RaTG13 sequence is the core of many problems. Because the original data released by WIV is not enough to reconstruct the genome, the scientific community has long asked the Institute to explain how they obtained the complete sequence of RaTG13. However, WIV claimed that they no longer have the corresponding biological samples, so it is impossible to reproduce the sequencing work.

WIV still claims that RaTG13 was collected in 2013 in an abandoned mine in Mojiang, Yunnan, where bats were infested. Public reports show that in the spring of 2012, six workers at the mine were infected with lung disease, with symptoms similar to SARS or covid, and three of them died.

In November 2020, under the pressure of public opinion, WIV published an article in the "Nature" magazine that they had received and analyzed 13 blood samples from 4 sick workers in the Mojiang mining area in 2012, but did not detect any coronavirus infection.

However, the master's thesis defense in 2014 mentioned that WIV received not 13 but 30 samples at that time, and all of them were analyzed.

Among the above three papers, the 2017 doctoral thesis has the highest technical level, which describes how to use chimeric virus construction technology to graft different coronaviruses to test the infectivity of different coronaviruses on human or animal cells.

The CCP has been accused of using deadly viruses to create biological weapons for many years. At present, the international community at large is increasingly doubting whether SARS-CoV-2 leaked from the laboratory of  WIV, and calls for thorough investigations continue one after another.

Biden: The United States will publish a report on the origin of the virus

Reporter : Jing Zhongming / Editor : Mei Lan / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/05/28/a103130019.html / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

The international community is increasingly skeptical whether SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus) originated from a laboratory leak in Wuhan. After ordering intelligence agencies to submit a report on the origin of the CCP virus within 90 days, US President Biden stated that the report will be made public.

On Thursday (27 May 2021), Biden told reporters before boarding the "Air Force One" special plane to go to Ohio, he would publish the results of the 90-day review to the public, "unless there is something in it that I didn't realize."

On Wednesday, Biden ordered the intelligence community to review the origin of the virus and submit a report within 90 days. The report will focus on whether the CCP virus originated from contact between humans and animals or from laboratory leaks. The White House pledged to increase resources for the investigation, including assistance from national laboratories.

US administrative officials said that the investigation of the origin of the virus may also take more than 90 days.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued a statement on Thursday that the US intelligence community currently does not know the source of the virus and how it spreads, but has reached a consensus around two possibilities, either from human contact with infected animals, or it came from a laboratory accident, but there is not enough information to judge which is more likely.

At present, more and more circumstantial evidence has been exposed, and the U.S. government and the public are increasingly suspicious of whether the CCP virus is related to the Wuhan virus laboratory.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a U.S. intelligence report on Monday that reported that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology had visited the hospital in November 2019 and had symptoms similar to those of the CCP virus.

Earlier, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who firmly opposed laboratory leaks, also changed his slogan to say that he "does not believe" that the virus comes from nature. Some mainstream media in the United States have also changed their attitudes, and no longer advocate that laboratory leaks are "conspiracy theories."

In March of this year, after WHO experts went to China to investigate, they said in the report that the virus was "extremely unlikely" from a laboratory leak. The international community accused the report as a platform for the Chinese Communist Party. Under pressure from all parties, the WHO stated that it will launch a second phase of investigation into the source of the virus.

Fauci: There is no guarantee that WIV lied

Reporter : Han Rui / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/05/27/a103129414.html / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the United States, has recently changed his attitude towards the origin of the CCP virus and the issue of funding the Wuhan Institute of Virology. His inconsistent position was questioned by legislators, but at the same time, it also made the outside world more curious about the cause of the CCP virus.

Dr. Fauci, the chief medical adviser of the White House, insisted in the US Congress this month that it did not fund the Wuhan Institute of Virology to conduct a “gain-of-function” study of the coronavirus.

Fauci replied on 11 May 2021, "Senator Paul, with all due respect, you are completely, completely, and completely wrong. The National Institutes of Health has neither funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the past nor at present to do research on 'gain-of-function'."

But this Wednesday (26 May 2021), he changed his mind when he was questioned by the senator, saying that there is no guarantee that the WIV has not lied about the use of funds.

U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy asked Fauci: "You gave (Wuhan Institute of Virology) money and said, You don't do research on ‘gain-of-function’?"

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, replied, "That's right."

US Senator John F. Kennedy said, "Then they (Wuhan Institute of Virology) said: We will not do it."

Fauci answered, "That's right."

U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy asked Fauci, "But you don't know whether they did it or not, except for believing them, right?"

Fauci replied, "Usually we will believe what the recipient said, and we can see the results..."

U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy asked Fauci, "Have you ever encountered a case where the recipient lied to you?"

Fauci replied, "I cannot guarantee that they did not lie to us, because you never know."

Dr. Fauci’s statement made the true origins of the plague of the century even more confusing, but his change of position on several key issues has also faced doubts from the US Congress. Republicans in Congress have publicly called on Fauci to resign or dismiss him.

According to a Rasmussen poll published on Wednesday, 40% of the 1,000 people interviewed believe that political factors have greatly affected Fauci's policy on epidemic prevention.

US Army: Need to clarify the truth about the virus

On Wednesday (26 May), the highest-level military official and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Mark Milley, who had just finished his speech at the graduation ceremony of the Air Force Academy, was interviewed by Fox reporters on the returning military plane. When he was asked whether his views on the origin of the virus had changed from more than a year ago, he replied that he was still not sure whether the virus was naturally occurring.

He said, "I haven't seen any different evidence, so I am still not sure about the source of the virus... However, the reason why the world still does not understand the origin of the virus is the Chinese Communist regime."

Milley said, "It's very clear that we need to find out the truth about it, because when this virus first appeared, (the CCP) seemed to have quite a lot of activities to cover up or make it lack transparency."

The main point of General Milley’s remarks is not only that he rarely represents the U.S. military to express his position, but also that he very directly pointed the finger at the CCP to cover it up for the first time, meaning that no matter where the virus came from, the CCP first tried to cover up the truth and obstructing the investigation is unacceptable.

This is of course a very important perspective, and it is also a perspective from which it is difficult for the CCP to escape, because the CCP’s cover-up of the epidemic has led to a large outbreak of the virus, and there is actually a lot of evidence, and it has long been recorded by various countries.

Senator of South Carolina: Pressure the CCP to cooperate with the investigation

The second hit came from Senator Graham of South Carolina. In an interview with Fox, he stated that he would advance sanctions against the CCP as soon as possible, on the grounds that the CCP did not adopt a cooperative attitude in the investigation of the source of the virus. The sanctions bill he promoted will keep pressure on the CCP until the CCP agrees to open WIV and cooperate with the international community to conduct independent and transparent investigations.

In fact, this sanctions bill was not proposed now. Graham proposed this bill called the "COVID-19 Accountability Act" as early as May last year, authorizing the president to implement a series of sanctions, such as asset freezes, travel bans and visa revocation, as well as restrictions on loans by US financial institutions to Chinese companies, and prohibitions on Chinese companies from listing on the US stock exchange, etc.

This bill was jointly proposed by eight senators. There is no need to say the strength of the sanctions, but it stopped because of the disputes that entered the general election. But now that Biden takes the initiative to set a deadline for the investigation, Graham is of course happy to follow the boat.

Facebook: No longer deleting posts claiming that the virus is "artificial"

On the same day that Biden made the statement, the social media giant Facebook also issued a statement, claiming that due to the new round of controversy caused by the origin of SARS-CoV-2, Facebook will no longer delete posts that claim that the CCP virus is "man-made".

A Facebook spokesperson said in an email statement on 26 May, “In view of the fact that the investigation of the origin of the novel coronavirus is still ongoing, we have negotiated with public health experts and decided that we will no longer delete the content of the novel coronavirus from the platform.” "We are continuing to work with health experts in order to keep up with the changing situation of the covid pandemic and update our policies on a regular basis according to new conditions."

Zuckerberg's decision represents a double meaning. On the one hand, it has once again proved the objective reality that Facebook has become an American Cyberspace Administration. Why do you say that? Because the United States is based on freedom of speech, a statement has the right to be published regardless of whether it conforms to the position of a public health expert. Facebook has set the opinions of public health experts as the standard for censorship, which has its own problems.

Do public health experts represent the truth? Obviously not, and public health experts themselves have huge differences on the source of the virus. Even among the experts who participated in the open letter co-signed in The Lancet that described the source of the laboratory as a conspiracy theory, at least three people publicly stated that they had changed their positions and supported a thorough investigation of the source of the laboratory.

The so-called public health expert opinions on Facebook, which side of the experts shall prevail? Therefore, behind this standard, there are factors of political manipulation.

But on the other hand, the 180-degree turn of Facebook’s attitude objectively shows that the current situation has undergone overall changes. Because people like Zuckerberg are typical people who do not see rabbits and scatter eagles, or in other words, they do not shed tears when they do not see a coffin. If he is not convinced that continuing to block the laboratory source doctrine will bring himself trouble or passivity, he is unlikely to slap himself and make such a very ugly turn.

Fauci changed his tone, party media criticized "betrayed Chinese scientists"

In contrast to this, Dr. Fauci's attitude has changed, which is in sync with the current situation. The Chinese Communist Party media even criticized Fauci as a "little man", saying that he had "betrayed Chinese scientists."

Had Fauci ever entered into an offensive and defensive alliance with CCP experts? Otherwise, how could such a blatant charge come out?

U.S. Senate bill: Request to declassify military drug institute and virus intelligence

The US Senate passed a bill at night of Biden’s statement on virus traceability investigations, requiring the Director of National Intelligence to decipher any and all intelligence related to the WIV and the origin of the CCP virus within 90 days. .

This pressure is undoubtedly on Biden. Because the Democratic Party is the majority party in the Senate, the bill passed shows that it has the support of both parties. Even the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and Democrat Adam Schiff came to join in the fun and issued a statement on Wednesday praising the Biden administration for investigating the origin of the virus. The bill also criticized the CCP’s lack of transparency on the issue of virus traceability, which has been preventing the international community from conducting a comprehensive and transparent investigation.

Schiff is a leftist and a leftist among the leftists. He has this attitude, which shows what the overall public opinion in the United States on the issue of virus traceability will be.

Why is the international wave of virus tracing surging?

Why did the Biden administration suddenly start to care so much about the source of the virus? Moreover, it drove the entire power structure and even the left media to turn. This is obviously not the product of Biden's wake-up and a whim.

News (15)

Epidemics in the West have fallen sharply

There are two important backgrounds to Biden's decision that are worth explaining. The first is the United States and its major Western allies. The epidemic situation has now fallen sharply.

Regardless of whether this is a vaccine or other reasons, it is an objective fact that the epidemic is basically under control, and this also allows governments to finally free up their hands to deal with the issue of virus traceability.

News (16)

The CCP's "seeking hegemony by the epidemic" intensifies

Another important background is that the CCP’s actions of "seeking hegemony by the epidemic" have become more and more intensified, and the tendency to step by step to seize the right to speak in epidemic prevention and control has become more and more obvious. If this trend cannot be stopped, the CCP may indeed change itself from the culprit of the spread of the epidemic into an advanced model of anti-epidemic. At that time, not to mention accountability, even the source of the virus may really be blamed on the US military.

The CCP frequently uses vaccines to stifle Taiwan’s political space, and even directly prevents Taiwan from buying German BioNTec’s vaccine regardless of human life. The nature of this operation is close to open mass murders, or, in other words, targeting Taiwan, a a biological war in disguise.

Against this background, to contain the CCP’s offensive, the most powerful weapon is to hit the source of the virus that the CCP cannot tell. As long as it is verified that the virus comes from the laboratory, whether it is man-made or accidentally leaked, the CCP will never be able to stand up, and all operations of the CCP to seek hegemony by the epidemic will become a wasted expression.

Not only the source of the virus has in fact become a strong link for the United States to organize a second alliance front in the field of epidemic prevention and control, it is in addition to politically combating the CCP’s ambitions for international leadership.

News (17)

Virus traceability issues are unprecedented in all countries

If some countries are too dependent on the CCP Chinese market and have to worry about the issue of containment of the CCP, it can be said that all countries are unanimously consistent on the issue of virus traceability, because everyone is a victim for a "long time". Before that, everyone was waiting for the US to take the lead. However, because of the election dispute, the traceability of the virus has been highly politicized, and the rejection of conspiracy theories has become politically correct. Therefore, all countries have to bury their heads in dealing with their domestic epidemics.

Now, it is rare for the U.S. government to reappear the unanimous opinion of the two parties to investigate the source of the virus. Not only has the trend of public opinion in the U.S. been quickly reversed, the international community has almost simultaneously begun to ferment.

The CCP tried its best to save the "China-EU Investment Agreement" to no avail

At the same time, the deterioration of the CCP’s diplomatic environment is still rapidly accelerating. In order to save the "China-EU Investment Agreement" that was frozen a few days ago, the CCP has taken great pains. Although the official appearance is very cold, saying that the agreement is not a unilateral gift and so on but the actual actions of the CCP show that the CCP very much hopes that the EU will bestow this agreement on Beijing.

On the one hand, Li Keqiang, the Premier of the Chinese Communist Party, reportedly worked hard to the last minute in order to save the agreement, hoping that Italy would help, but ultimately failed. The Ministry of Commerce of the Communist Party of China even publicly issued a statement pinning its hopes on France, saying, "I hope that France will actively promote the agreement and work hard for the agreement to be signed and effective as soon as possible."

France is also very straightforward and directly replied that as long as the CCP's sanctions against the EU exist, this agreement cannot be unfrozen. The meaning is very clear. The CCP must swallow the sputum again, otherwise it will not be discussed.

Everyone can see who is begging for the China-EU Agreement. From the sudden peak of the virus traceability to the complete breakup between China and Europe, the rapid deterioration of the CCP’s diplomatic environment is obvious.

Hu Xijin shouts "high-intensity showdown" CCP panic

Hu Xijin jumped up and screamed like a fire on his ass, "Why China and the United States are facing a "high-intensity showdown"? The CCP should rapidly expand a large number of strategic nuclear missiles as the ultimate bargaining chip to prevent the United States from using military means."

Whenever the CCP is in an existential crisis, Hu Xijin will talk about nuclear missiles. This has happened many times in the past.

Of course, Hu Xijin’s efforts to "act as the party-state to actively share the worries" may have his own small abacus, showing that more loyalty is a benefit, but anyone with a little knowledge of international politics will know that during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union decades ago, the outbreak of a nuclear war is already impossible. What's more, now that nuclear technology has been greatly improved? !

Therefore, behind Hu Xijin's remarks is not confidence, on the contrary, it is a panic, and it is a collective panic within the CCP system. This panic prompted many people in the system represented by Hu Xijin to want to bind 1.4 billion Chinese as hostages in the nuclear war. In other words, this is an enlarged version of Hamas, but also a more cunning Hamas.

U.S. National Institutes of Health funded Wuhan Institute of Virology, congressmen to launch investigation

On Friday (28 May 2021), Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee and Oversight Committee launched an investigation into a grant granted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to the EcoHealth Alliance. According to allegations, the alliance is suspected of allocating federal funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) to study the risk of bat coronaviruses that may infect humans.

According to Fox reports, James Comer, a senior member of the House Oversight Committee, and Jim Jordan, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, stated in a letter to NIH Dean Francis Collins, “There is more evidence showing that the pandemic started at the WIV and the CCP covered it up.” They wrote in their letter that they were worried that the Eco-Health Alliance knew that the CCP tried to cover up the origin of the pandemic, but did not take it, act or notify the U.S. government.

"If U.S. taxpayer money is used to develop COVID-19, to conduct gain of function research, or to assist in any form of cover-up, the Eco-Health Alliance must be held accountable, and grant recipients have the responsibility to ensure their work is carried out within the scope of funding to advance our national interests and protect our national security."

In the letter, Comer and Jordan asked the NIH to provide all documents and communications related to funding between the WIV and the Eco-Health Alliance, as well as any U.S. government-led anti-Wuhan virus arrangements arranged by the Eco-Health Alliance. The institute will check the documents and hold a briefing session no later than 4 June.

Last summer, the NIH sent a letter to the Eco-Health Alliance, expressing concerns about its relationship with WIV, and suspended its funding, waiting for answers to several questions, including: a scientist from the Institute is missing and the disclosure of why the institute implemented "unconventional restrictions" in October 2019 and allowed the United States to lead inspections of the institute.

Comer and Jordan said that it is unclear whether these questions have been answered. However, according to intelligence reports, US officials noticed a serious lack of properly trained technicians and investigators in the laboratory during their interactions with the WIV scientists.

Fauci admits to funding Wuhan Institute of Virology

Fauci, the chief medical adviser to the White House, told members of Congress on 27 May that the NIH had provided WIV with US$600,000 over a five-year period to study whether bat coronaviruses could be transmitted to humans, but denied it was used for gain of function  research.

The New York Post reported that Anthony Fauci, president of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told the Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee that the funds were funded through the non-profit organization Eco-Health Alliance to the WIV.

But Fauci denied that the funds were used for so-called "gain-of-function" research.

The President of the NIH, Francis Collins, told Rep. Andy Harris at the hearing earlier that the NIH had not approved the WIV researchers to conduct functional enhancement studies, and it is unclear whether the WIV obtained funds from other sources or conduct other activities without their consent.

The NIH cut off funding to the Eco-Health Alliance in April last year, which was the peak of the covid epidemic.

Fauci said, "In 2002 and 2003, we were very worried about SARS-CoV-1 (SARS virus). This particular virus undoubtedly spread from a bat to an intermediate host to cause an epidemic, and then it evolved into a global pandemic causing 8,000 cases and nearly 800 deaths."

In recent weeks, the NIH's funding of the WIV has faced increasing scrutiny. Republican senators such as Rand Paul and Tom Cotton have all accused Fauci of lying about whether there is a funding function to enhance research.

India calls on WHO to restart investigation of virus origin

After the United States asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to conduct a second-stage transparent investigation on the origin of the CCP virus, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly expressed its support for the resumption of the WHO investigation on Friday, calling it an "important step."

India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “WHO’s initiation of global research on the origin of COVID-19 is an important first step.”

The statement said, "It emphasizes the need for the next phase of research, and also emphasizes the need for further data and research to draw strong conclusions."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India said that the WHO study of SARS-CoV-2 deserves everyone’s understanding and cooperation.

More than a year after the outbreak, WHO was finally able to send an international research team to Wuhan in January 2021.

However, during the four weeks of investigation, China did not disclose important data at the beginning of the epidemic. So for scientists, the origin of this deadly virus is still quite mysterious.

The US Mission to the United Nations said in a statement on Thursday that the WHO's preliminary research was "incomplete and uncertain." The United States called for a transparent and evidence-based second investigation to allow independent experts to have full access to China's original data and samples.

In the past few weeks, India has experienced an extremely severe epidemic. This month it set the highest number of deaths in a single day in the world since the outbreak last year.

Indian authorities said on Friday that in the past 24 hours, India had newly confirmed 186,364 cases, the lowest single-day record since 14 April. In addition, the number of deaths increased by 3,660.

The Ministry of Health of India stated that the current cumulative number of infections in India is 27.56 million and the death toll is 318,895.

Mucormycosis in India suspected to be related to overuse of antibiotics

The second wave of the epidemic in India has not stopped, and more than 11,000 cases of mucor mould infection have been reported in various places. Experts said that the emergence of this rare disease during the COVID-19 epidemic may be related to the massive use of antibiotics and zinc to treat patients.

Indian medical expert Rajeev Jayadevan said that studies have shown that in the treatment of COVID-19, excessive use of respiratory tract inhalation steam therapy and excessive intake of zinc supplements may cause mucormycosis (also known as black fungus disease), which causes the black fungus disease outbreak.

He added that the use of mixed antibiotics such as Azithromycin, Doxycycline and Carbapenem to treat patients with covid will increase the patient's risk of infection with mucor infection and other fungal diseases.

Since there is no medication for covid, doctors prescribe mixed antibiotics to prevent the virus from continuing to grow while prescribing supplements such as zinc and vitamins to increase the patient’s immune system.

However, previous reports have shown that zinc can become a growth factor for fungi, especially mucormycosis, and studies have shown that removing zinc will make it difficult for fungi to survive.

Due to the increasing number of patients infected with mucormycosis and other fungal diseases in various parts of India and the lack of antifungal drugs, the Central Government of India announced yesterday that it has distributed 8,000 vials of the antifungal drug Amphotericin B to all provinces, cities, and central regions, and simultaneously expand international supply sources, including purchasing anti-fungal drugs from Taiwan and other places.

There are more than 30 million cases in South Asia, experts suspect that the real data does not stop there

According to Reuters, the pandemic is raging in South Asia, and the number of cases in the region has exceeded 30 million.

According to reports, South Asia (including India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka) accounts for 18% of global cases and 10% of deaths. However, more and more experts suspect that official statistics on infections and deaths do not reflect the true situation of the epidemic.

Due to the severity of the pandemic, India decided to stop exporting vaccines at least before October, which also left countries with insufficient supply of vaccines.

Nearly half of covid patients experience functional decline after hospitalization

A study of covid survivors found that up to 45% of patients who were hospitalized due to the virus experienced significant functional decline after discharge. The researchers said this finding highlights the need for these patients to recover after being discharged from the hospital.

The study was conducted by Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan and published in the journal PM&R. It included data from 300 adult patients hospitalized with COVID-19 between March and April 2020.

Researchers found that 80% of patients who experienced functional decline were referred to other treatments after being discharged from the hospital, and nearly 20% of all patients lost so many abilities that they could no longer live independently after discharge.

Alecia K. Daunter, a pediatrician at the Medical College of Michigan, said in a press release, “These patients may need to move to a subacute ward, or they may need to move to another family member, but they cannot go home. This has a huge impact on patients and their families both emotionally and physically."

The researchers said that even so, this number may still be underestimated, because in the early stages of the pandemic, many hospitals took action to minimize exposure of patients, so up to 40% of patients in the study never recovered after evaluation.

Dr. Anna Kratz, MD and clinical psychologist from the University of Michigan, said, "The major functional changes that we emphasize are important, but the decline in physical and cognitive functions in almost all previously hospitalized covid patients is smaller.” The senior author of the paper said at a press conference. "Moreover, from decades of rehabilitation work, we know that even minor functional changes can derail a person’s life trajectory. Future work needs to focus on improving our ability to identify and treat people within the scope of functional decline ability."

WHO Spokesperson: Preparing for the next step of the disease source research recommendations

A spokeswoman said on Friday that experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) are preparing a proposal for the next step in research on the origin of SARS-CoV-2.

The United States on Thursday called on the WHO to conduct a second-stage investigation of the origin of the virus, and independent experts can fully obtain original data and samples in China. The United Kingdom has also issued a similar appeal.

WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said at a UN briefing on Friday that experts will prepare a proposal for WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, but did not specify a timeline.

Mike Ryan, WHO's chief emergency expert, said earlier this week that talks with member states will continue in the coming weeks.

The Central News Agency reported that 10 prefectures in Japan implemented the "Declaration of Emergency Situation" due to the epidemic, and 9 places including Tokyo were originally scheduled to implement it until 31 May. However, because the epidemic is still spreading, the Japanese government today decided to extend the implementation of the Declaration of Emergency Situation to 20 June.

The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that the Japanese government held a meeting of the Headquarters for Response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19, covid) Epidemic at the Prime Minister’s Residence (Administrative Center) at 6:30 pm (5:30 Taiwan time) today. Prime Minister Suga and other relevant cabinet members attended the meeting and it was formally decided to extend the emergency declaration from 31 May to 20 June.

In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, Japan has implemented emergency declarations in Hokkaido, Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Okayama, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Okinawa.

Except for Okinawa Prefecture, which was incorporated into the emergency declaration later, it is expected to be implemented until June 20. The other 9 prefectures were originally scheduled to lift the emergency declaration on May 31. However, because the epidemic is still severe, the Japanese government officially declared an emergency tonight. The state of emergency was extended to 20 June.

The Japanese government today also decided to extend the implementation period from 31 May to June for the five prefectures in which the "key measures to prevent spreading" of the quasi-emergency declaration apply: Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Gifu, and Mie prefectures 20th.

In addition, Gunma, Ishikawa, and Kumamoto prefectures where the "key measures to prevent spreading" apply will be lifted on 13 June as originally planned and will not be extended.

Among the 10 prefectures to which the declaration of emergency is currently applied, Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto, which are listed as the applicable target from 25 April, have extended the declaration of emergency for the second time.

Taiwan is a country

Host : Li Muyang / Publisher : News Insights / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/05/29/a103130236.html / Extract translation, editing : GanYung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

There is something very interesting about Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare’s use of the word "my country" in its press release. Taiwan is actually an independent country but there is no formality or an official announcement but in fact, everyone has accepted this fact in their hearts.

A few days ago, on 25 May, John Senna, the star of the Hollywood movie "Fast and Furious 9", suddenly posted an apology video on the Internet. He claimed to be sorry for his previous "mistake" and said that he "respects China and the Chinese people more." But he did not know exactly what mistake he made.

External analysis believes that it may be that he called Taiwan a "country" when he was promoting the new film in Taiwan not long ago. He said, "Taiwan is the first country where you can watch "Fast and Furious 9"."

Perhaps for this reason, Senna said he had made a "mistake." But Pompeo, the former Secretary of State, believed that Senna was "not wrong." And more people think, "Taiwan is a country."

Someone on Twitter created a hashtag "#Taiwan Is A Country" (Taiwan is a country), which has received responses from many certified American dignitaries and celebrities from all walks of life.

For example, the tweet of U.S. Representative John Curtis added the Taiwan and American flags "shaking hands" after this tag.

Digital media "send" editor-in-chief and political columnist of the "Los Angeles Times" Ge Bao said in a tweet at the top, "I am not the kind of person who loves to lead trends on Twitter, but I think if we let it become a trend, because, You know, Taiwan is a country."

Later, American philosophy professor, well-known feminist writer Somas, and political critic Benson also followed up or retweet them, and used "Taiwan is a country" as the label. Former U.S. Congressman Rigman and writer Baker also stated in tweets, "Taiwan is a country."

Based on the reactions of these dignitaries and celebrities, everyone is making their own choice between the CCP and Taiwan. People with a just and conscience are all supporting Taiwan and following good faith.
