Local clinic groups prohibit TTSH patients and caregivers from entering

Three local comprehensive clinic groups announced that they will follow hospital practices and prohibit patients and caregivers who have been to the wards of Tan Tock Seng Hospital from entering the clinic to prevent the spread of nosocomial infections.

The National Health Insurance Group stated that all patients and visitors to its six comprehensive clinics must report whether they have been to Tan Tock Seng Hospital after 18 April.

Patients who have been to the hospital can enter, but other visitors including caregivers cannot accompany them.

As for people who go to get the coronavirus vaccine, if they have been to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital recently, they need to be tested and determined to be negative before they can enter.

It is understood that the six comprehensive clinics of the National University will also take similar measures for patients and visitors.

The nine comprehensive clinics of SingHealth Group urged patients who had recently been to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to postpone non-essential treatments.

The SingHealth Group also stated that if the nursing staff cannot accompany them because they have been to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the staff of the clinic will provide assistance.

Spa therapist diagnosed, the spa industry has strengthened epidemic prevention and strict implementation of entry and exit registration

Reporter : Wu Liangxiang / https://www.8world.com/news/singapore/article/spa-nine-1465981#cxrecs_sTranslation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

The number of covid cases in Singapore continues to increase. Coupled with a confirmed diagnosis by a hydrotherapist, the Health and Healthcare Association stated that it has received a notice from the police to require the industry to strengthen epidemic prevention, especially strictly enforce entry and exit registration, to facilitate contact tracing.

The infected spa therapist is a Malaysian working in the spa Dutch Passage. She had a runny nose on 28 April. She went to the family clinic the next day and tested positive. The clerk who does not want to be photographed said that the spa can be opened as usual after disinfection. She said, “There is no problem for those who come to work. We tested negative. We disinfect every day. We disinfect this room every time a customer walked. We wash our hands more and pay more attention to it. Try not to have too close contact."

The spa therapist is listed as an unrelated community case. The residents interviewed believe that this does not necessarily mean that the risk of community transmission has increased, but the epidemic prevention and safety measures must still be followed.

A resident said, "Some are doing things, and some are loose. I hope the government will enforce the law more strictly."

Another resident said, “Just do your part, wash your hands or wear a mask.”

The Health and Healthcare Association, which has 6,000 members, has called the Ministry of Health’s hotline many times in the past few months to fight for vaccination for the beauty industry but was told that it is not on the priority list of industries.

Wang Zhuoxiong, President of the Singapore Health and Healthcare Association, said, “These 6000 companies employ tens of thousands of employees. For example, if each employee has four or five customers he contacts every day, multiplying them by tens of thousands. One hundred thousand, 200,000, and 300,000 touch points. These 200,000 and 300,000 touch points are quite risky."

The association pointed out that the spread of confirmed cases in the spa has more or less affected the confidence of consumers, and some even postponed care. Coupled with the tightening of the number of shopping malls, some businesses, especially the business of receiving customers who have not made an appointment, have been affected.

Apply to an isolation facility to take care of relatives Ministry of Health: Review according to individual circumstances

Those who want to go to the isolation facility to take care of their relatives can apply to the Ministry of Health, but the application will be reviewed at the discretion of the "condition of the quarantined person". These quarantined persons may include the elderly, minors, and those who are sick and unable to take care of themselves. .

The Ministry of Health said this when responding to a question about the 62373th case in response to Channel News Asia.

The 62373th case is a 45-year-old local permanent resident who was diagnosed after requesting to take care of his mother in an isolation facility.

At that time, the man's mother was ordered to be quarantined from 16 to 30 April because she had close contact with two other cases on the plane.

The Ministry of Health stated that the authorities approved the application mainly because of his mother’s health condition. Therefore, the man was quarantined with his mother on 16 April and his parents have since been diagnosed.

News (9)

So far 23 applications have been approved

The Ministry of Health also pointed out that as of 26 April, the Singaporean authorities had approved 23 people to take care of quarantined people in designated isolation facilities.

However, the Ministry of Health mentioned that in order to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2, quarantined persons should not come into contact with other people, including the same family members who are quarantined at home, because they bear similar risks.

The Ministry of Health also stated that if the authorities have approved the relevant application, caregivers must abide by all rules, including keeping in touch with the authorities during the quarantine period, observing the health conditions of the quarantined person and caregivers, reporting immediately if symptoms of covid appear and maintain good personal hygiene.

Yale University Professor: 60% of new covid patients have been vaccinated

Reporter : Xiao Jing / Editor : Mei Lan / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/05/03/a103109950.html / Translation, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Harvey Risch, a professor of medicine at Yale University in the United States, recently stated in Bannon’s War Room Pandemic program that More than half of covid patients have been vaccinated.

Risch is a professor of epidemiology in the Yale School of Public Health and the Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and his doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Recently, in an interview on former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's War Room Pandemic, Dr. Risch pointed out that the therapeutic effect of the CCP virus vaccine is completely different from what public health officials say.

“What the clinicians tell me is that more than half of the patients who have seen the new covid cases are people who have been vaccinated.” Dr. Risch continued, “They estimate that 60% of the new patients treated are people who have been vaccinated."

He even bluntly said that medical institutions lied about the effectiveness of the vaccine because they are inducing everyone to get the vaccine.

Risch also pointed out in the interview that Anthony Fauci, an epidemiologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has a different agenda from the public health plan because he will not be honest about "herd immunity." It is the problem.

Dr. Risch said that Fauci is unwilling to answer some basic questions, such as, why do people who have been vaccinated or have been exposed to the virus need to wear a mask? This shows that he is likely to have another agenda.

"In fact, he is unwilling to say the word 'herd immunity'." Risch said, "I don't understand why this is, unless he has another plan, and these plans are not consistent with covid treatment. Apart from this, I can't find any explanation."

Dr. Risch also mentioned another overlooked fact. He said, "Look at the World Health Organization (WHO), they have quietly concealed the contribution of natural infection to herd immunity. This has caused an uproar in the scientific community because it goes against science for at least a hundred years. It is common sense."

Risch explained that half of the states in the United States had already surpassed the standards required for "herd immunity" in half of the states before the vaccine came out last fall, had accumulated enough cases, and the number of confirmed cases would drop sharply.

Dr. Risch mentioned that adopting the "blockade" anti-epidemic model will only "backfire" and it will delay the progress of achieving herd immunity.

In addition, he also admitted that there are "many" treatments for the CCP virus, which is an "open secret" in the scientific community.

"Early outpatient treatment is effective and very effective." Risch said, this includes hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, aspirin, antibiotics and other cheap treatment methods but these methods have been ridiculed by some "scholars". "They have never treated patients and are ignorant of the actual effects of these therapies."

Epidemic crisis in Nepal, new cases have increased by more than 1,200% since mid-April

CNN reported that Johns Hopkins University data showed that Nepal’s 7-day average daily number of new covid cases has increased by more than 1,200% since mid-April.

According to statistics from the Nepalese government, it was announced on Monday that 7,388 new cases of the CCP virus had been added in the past 24 hours. On average, there are 200 new cases per million people every day.

Nepal’s neighbour, India, continued to deal with the brutal second wave of the epidemic, and announced a similar number of new cases per million people per day at the end of April.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, on 22 April, India reported an average of 206 cases per million inhabitants. The level of infection per capita in Nepal is similar to that in India less than two weeks ago.

The number of cases in this small South Asian country began to decline from February to March when the number of new cases per day was only around 50 to 100. However, with the second wave of the epidemic in India, the number of infections in Nepal also surged in mid-April, and now there are thousands of new cases every day.

Nepal has discovered the covi variant virus B.1.617 but its medical infrastructure is limited and it is unable to obtain life-saving resources. People are worried that Nepal does not have enough capacity to deal with a large-scale epidemic similar to the current situation in India.

On Monday, Nepal’s Prime Minister Khad Prasad Sharma Oli announced that all international flights are banned from midnight of 6 to 14 May.

Acting Director of the FDA: Global spread of Covid-19, the world becomes a "petri dish"

FDA Acting Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock said on Monday (3 May 2021) that the continued spread of Covid-19 (the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 / CCP virus) will only encourage the emergence of more variants.

Woodcock told Dr. Marc Siegel in SiriusXM’s doctor’s radio report, “Because the virus replicates so much in many parts of the world, it’s like a huge petri dish.”

She added, "Because of so many virus replications, they will keep spitting out variants. We must be vigilant."

Woodcock said these variants can easily evade some current antibody treatments, such as Eli Lilly's bamlanivimab. However, so far, the vaccine seems to have a good protective effect on the variant. Monoclonal antibodies are immune system proteins designed in the laboratory against specific targets. The vaccine caused a broad immune response.

"We have seen that bamlanivimab is no longer effective for many variants spread in the United States." Woodcock said.

"For monoclonal antibodies, this is expected because they are only monoclonal antibodies. Therefore, they are highly targeted and are easily affected by this variant. Vaccines are more powerful because they produce a human response. That is the polyclonal reaction."

Woodcock said that strengthening virus surveillance is important to understand how to deal with variants.

Biden predicts that the U.S. will be partially normal before the end of summer

President Biden praised the country's vaccination progress on 3 May and predicted that "by the end of summer" it will partially return to normal.

When asked about the estimated time required to return to normalcy, he said, "I think by the end of the summer, we will be in a very different situation from now." He said that his government is working hard to increase vaccine production and promised, "Once we take care of all Americans, we will expand the scale to help other countries."

He also talked about people's skepticism about vaccines, citing some statistics in his favour.

He said, "What is happening now is about how people do not plan to be vaccinated and do not participate in the discussion. We have been told that this is likely to happen in 65-year-olds. But now, more than 80% of people over 65 have been vaccinated. , 66% of them have been fully vaccinated. There is almost no difference between whites, blacks, Hispanics and Asian Americans."

CNN reported that Biden praised his government's efforts to expand access to vaccines and the measures taken to promote vaccine fairness.

"In the case of certain criticisms, what we did was expand the vaccination route to familiar places-there are now 40,000 pharmacies, and all community health centers across the country, mobile units everywhere, and the situation is getting worse. The better it comes, the better and better," he said. The way to deal with variants is important.

U.S. NIH plans to invest $1 billion to study the sequelae of covid

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) plans to allocate more than US$1 billion in the next three weeks to study long-term health problems after the CCP virus infection is cured.

NIH Dean Collins (Francis Collins) said at a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Wednesday (28 April) that NIH is conducting an unprecedented large-scale study of tens of thousands of covid patients to check for continued infection, the infectivity, severity, and persistent symptoms of the disease.

In a hearing focused on the study of patient recovery, Collins cited preliminary findings: 10% to 30% of patients with new covid may have sequelae. In the past year, there were more than 32 million confirmed cases in the United States, and millions of them may have sequelae.

A study released by the CDC last week found that two-thirds of non-hospitalized patients re-infected within 6 months of being infected with the virus.

At the hearing, John Brooks, chief medical officer of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 response, said that the sequelae of covid is "unseen before", and that it will not be the case after the flu.

U.S. Cruise Line will resume operations  in mid-July as soon as possible

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently stated that cruise lines can restart operations from the United States as early as mid-July this year. If feasible at that time, this move will bring much-needed funds to the financially troubled port of San Francisco, like a "just-in-time rain."

The CDC pointed out that the prerequisite for the cruise company to resume its cruise operations is that 98% of its crew and 95% of its passengers must be fully vaccinated. In addition, the company must also comply with epidemic prevention restrictions, including signing agreements with the port and the local health department where it plans to call.

CDC spokesperson Scott Pauley said in his statement, "We will be committed to resuming cruise passenger service in mid-July in accordance with the requirements of the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order." "CDC will continue to cooperate with the cruise industry and urge the cruise line to submit the Phase 2A port agreement as soon as possible so that the sailing schedule can be maintained by mid-July."

The return of the cruise industry can help the financially strained port of San Francisco bring much-needed relief. The main sources of income for the Port of San Francisco are tourism, retail, and commercial rents. During the pandemic, the port’s revenue plummeted by nearly 50%. In the next 5 years, it will face about 100 million U.S. dollars in financial gap.

The cumulative number of people infected with the CCP virus in Japan exceeds 600,000

As of 3 May, the cumulative number of people infected with the CCP virus in Japan has exceeded 600,000, reaching 605,527. The number of severely ill patients has increased by 100,000 in just over 20 days. Yesterday, the number of severely ill patients across the country reached 1,050, a record high. This reflects the severity of the "fourth wave" of the epidemic in Japan.

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare stated that there were 30 more critically ill patients on Sunday than the previous day, reaching 1,050, a new high. The previous record was 1,043 announced on January 27.

After Japan entered March, the number of people infected with the epidemic decreased to more than 300 daily, but after the declaration was lifted, the number continued to increase since April. The number released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on 1 May  again exceeded 1,000.

Among the confirmed infections on 2 May 1057 were in Osaka, 879 were in Tokyo, 539 were in Hyogo, and 417 were in Fukuoka, for a total of 5,900. There were 326 in Hokkaido, 114 in Okayama, and 40 in Ishikawa, all reaching new highs. Among the death toll, there were 16 in Osaka, 12 in Hyogo, 6 in Hokkaido, and 5 in Mie, totaling 61.

South Korean expert: Epidemic group immunization may be difficult to achieve

On 3 May, Chairman of the Central Clinical Committee of New Infectious Diseases in Korea, Wu Mingdun, professor of infectious medicine at Seoul National University School of Medicine, said at a press conference that the goal of herd immunity against the CCP virus may be difficult to achieve.

He said that relevant departments predict that 70% of the population will be able to form herd immunity after vaccination but this is not the case. A vaccine to prevent the spread of the virus over multiple generations has not been developed. The 95% effective rate of Pfizer vaccine means that it can prevent disease, but it does not mean that it can prevent multi-generational transmission. How long the immunity formed after infection with the virus or vaccination lasts is unknown, which is why the epidemic is difficult to quell.

Wu Mingdun also said that we must attach great importance to the mutant virus and the patients infected after vaccination. Based on various factors, it is difficult to completely quell the epidemic or achieve the goal of herd immunity. SARS-CoV-2 will eventually coexist with humans like the influenza virus, and people also need to be vaccinated regularly. He believes that the national vaccination strategy should shift from eradicating the virus to minimizing the damage caused by the epidemic, focusing on protecting the elderly and high-risk groups.

Poll: 95% of Australians approve the effectiveness of the government's response to the epidemic

A new survey shows that the vast majority of Australians believe that the federal government has done a "very good" response to the covid  epidemic.

The Lowy Institute, an Australian think tank, announced its 2021 virus epidemic poll report "COVIDPOLL 2021" on Monday (3rd). The institute conducted a survey of 2222 Australian adults from 15 to 29 March 2021 to understand their attitudes towards the epidemic.

The results showed that about 95% of respondents said that Australia’s handling of the epidemic was “pretty good” or “very good”, a result that was 2 percentage points higher than last year. More than half (59%) of Australians believe that the federal government has “done a good job” in helping overseas Australians return home but a third (33%) believe that the government is not doing well enough.

The poll also found that there are still disagreements over whether Australia should continue to close its borders and whether to allow those who have been vaccinated to travel abroad freely. 41% of the interviewees agreed with the Australian government’s current practice of allowing only those Australians with special exemptions to leave the country; 40% believed that those who had been vaccinated should be free to leave the country; 18% believed that all Australians  should be able to leave the country freely.

Woman returning to Hong Kong from India diagnosed stays in the community for 8 days

One more person in Hong Kong was tested with the N501Y variant covi strain on 3 May 2021, and a total of 6 people in the community were infected with the variant virus. The 28-year-old housewife infected with the virus returned to Hong Kong from Delhi, India in early April. After completing the hotel quarantine on 21 April, she returned to live in the Meiyuan Building, Tsim Sha Tsui. She stayed in the community for 8 days. During the two tests, the results were negative and uncertain. It was positive, and the antibody was also positive later.

About 40 residents of the whole building were evacuated for quarantine at night on 21 April. Some doctors believe that the housewife may have developed the disease long ago but could not be detected due to the decline in the amount of the virus. It may have been infected in India and then re-infected in a local quarantine hotel or community. A full investigation is required, including arrangements for those who stayed in the hotel for quarantine during the same period and genetic sequencing.

When the district councillor He Zhuoxuan said that the residents of this building are mostly elderly, the building’s hygiene is not bad, and it is not a "three no building." He said yesterday afternoon that many guests who had visited the Korean restaurant downstairs in the building reported that they received a notification from the "Travel with Peace" program to require mandatory testing. It was unknown whether it was related to the evacuation.

Before evacuating last night, residents of Meiyuan Building gave their pets and dog food to their friends, expressing excitement. Ms. Chen, who rented a unit on the third floor of the building as an office building, received a notification from the owner last night that the building had a variant virus and had to be evacuated. She came to find out after attending the wedding banquet and said that there was no way to isolate it eventually.

Liang urges hotel quarantine personnel to undergo virus gene sequencing during the same period

Respiratory specialist Liang Zichao believes that there are two possibilities. Maybe the housewife has already developed the disease but the virus has been declining since then, making it impossible to detect it. Another possibility is that she was infected and developed antibodies in India. The infection may be in India, local quarantine hotels or communities. He said that if the virus load of the housewife rises in the next few days, it may mean re-infection; if the virus load is low, it may be a residual virus. He said that it is necessary to fully investigate the incident and suggest that quarantine persons who stayed at the hotel at the same time as the housewife be arranged for virus genetic sequencing, and that there are loopholes in the hotel's quarantine measures and sampling problems.

Yuen Guoyong: It is necessary to clarify the reasons for the introduction of variants into the community as soon as possible

Xu Shuchang, Chair Professor of Respiratory Department of CUHK, said that after the housewife was admitted to the hospital, the antibody level was high, the virus value (CT Value) was higher than 30, and there was no symptom; her antibody was positive, that is, the onset of at least 10 days, but the temporary information is limited. It must be determined whether she was infected before coming to Hong Kong.

Yuen Guoyong, Chair Professor of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, said yesterday that it is necessary to clarify as soon as possible the reason why the inbound cases of variant viruses have flowed into the community. Are they due to the airport, the shuttle bus, the quarantine hotel, the sampling problem or the testing problem, etc.? He  describes this as a "very important issue."
