Hundreds of millions of "locust army" have rushed to India and are approaching China. On 2 February 2020, the Chinese authorities issued an urgent notice and sent experts to Pakistan to inspect the locust plague. Experts are shocked that the locust plague is worse than expected. The desert locusts are large, aggressive and bite humans. The experts were bitten by the locusts during the inspection.

The Communist Party of China’s Forest and Grass Bureau issued an emergency notice on 2 March 2020 stating that the locust army may invade Tibet from Pakistan and India, or Yunnan through Myanmar, or Xinjiang through Kazakhstan. They have alerted the border areas of Yunnan, Tibet, Xinjiang with Myanmar, India and Pakistan including provinces and autonomous regions to enter the phase of  comprehensive monitoring and attention.

At the same time, the authorities have sent a number of experts to visit the locust-stricken areas in Pakistan and found that the situation is worse than expected. Wang Zhuoran, Director of the Ecological Restoration Division of the Grassland Management Department, pointed out that the density of desert locusts is still very high this time.

Wang Tongwei, Deputy Head of the Shandong Plant Protection General Station, said that the desert locusts are larger and more aggressive, than the common East Asian migratory locust in China. Besides crops and grass, they bite humans. The expert team were bitten by the locusts even during the inspection.

Pakistani experts bluntly say that it is the mating and breeding stage of locusts. If locusts successfully hatch larvae, cannot fly they will eat these crops. "They will eat up all the land within a few days."

However, a video recently posted on the Internet showed that the locust advance troops suspected of reaching the Xinjiang border. On 15 February 2020, a number of Chinese netizens posted on Twitter, saying that "the first army of the locust army has arrived" and "locusts have arrived in Xinjiang. Chinese netizens have also speculated that locusts cannot climb over the mountains."

Netizens who shot the video said that the locusts were scary.

As early as January 2020, overseas media have begun to warn that locusts with an index of 100 billion are raging in countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya and have spread to other African countries and Asia. To this end, the United Nations has declared global emergency alert.

Locusts are large in southern Ethiopia in eastern Africa and parts of Kenya, and have only been seen for decades. At present, the army of locusts has flown through the Red Sea into Europe and Asia, invaded Pakistan and India, and directly threatened Tibet and Yunnan.

StayGate's Notes:
China and India are suffering from COVID-19 and desert locust plague. Pakistan has declared emergency on the devastating locust plague. Myanmar, Bangladesh and Kazakhstan should brace for the devastating locust plague.
