As COVID-19 (covid, in short) continues to spread, Guizhou, the first Chinese province to re-open schools, is suspected of having a large-scale covid infection on 26 March 2020. According to the Guizhou Provincial Epidemic Prevention and Control Group's announcement, a sudden public health safety incident occurred in Jinping County of Guizhou where 209 students have suffered from fever, stomache and diarrhoea.

According to a report from the local media in Guizhou on 27 March 2020, Guizhou Qiandongnan Prefecture's Office of the Communist Party of China's Leading Group for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic Prevention and Control of School Epidemic Prevention and Control has issued emergency work tips in relation to the collective situation of 209 students.

The tips briefed the public health emergency incident had a negative impact on school opening work during the epidemic prevention and control of Qiandongnan Prefecture.

Guizhou is the first province in China to announce the opening of schools. The third and third grade students officially resumed school lessons on 16 March 2020. Other provinces and cities have also introduced plans to  re-open schools.

From the official documents of the Communist Party of China and the media reported by the Communist Party of China’s mouthpiece, the symptoms of these 209 students are very similar to the symptoms of covid patients.
