Mike Roman, CEO of 3M, the "mask giant", said recently that the company's N95 masks with breathing valves are currently only available to frontline medical staff. They will not be sold to consumers in stores. This means that if consumers see 3M N95 masks on the market in the future, they are likely to be counterfeit products.

After the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, medical masks became a necessity, especially N95 breathing valve masks, which can protect workers in spaces with high concentrations of particulate matter from being invaded by particulate matter, thus becoming a popular item in the market. This has also become the current "hot target" for fake and shoddy manufacturers in China.

3M's anti-counterfeiting product team has found 18 dens in China that produce and sell fake masks. These fake masks not only fail to achieve the desired protective effect, but also cause adverse effects such as allergic reactions.

The Counterfeit Product Report website provides users with the following methods to identify these fake and inferior masks.

First, counterfeiters often use advertising photos of genuine manufacturers in advertisements, but the fakes are actually sent to buyers;

Second, counterfeit products use a much thinner material and are of lower quality. Significant differences in font, language and printing position from the original;

Third, the fake 3M-8210 mask has a poorly sealed nasal foam or even transmits light, making it difficult to effectively protect the wearer from pollutants and particles.

In addition, the 3M official website provides product serial codes to identify authenticity. There is no serial code or fake serial code for fakes, each mask of real goods has its own independent serial code. Users can enter the serial code into the 3M safeguard program for verification.

It is reported that 3M is working with the federal and state governments to curb counterfeit products and price fraud, and hold the offenders accountable.
