42 new covid cases from abroad and 4 new local cases in mainland China on Good Friday

The official web-site of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China reported that on Good Friday (10 April 2020), 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 46 newly diagnosed COVID-19 cases, of which 42 were overseas imported cases, and 4 cases were local cases (3 cases in Guangdong, 1 case in Heilongjiang). There are 3 new death cases (3 cases in Hubei), 8 new suspected cases, all imported cases (5 cases in Heilongjiang, 2 cases in Shanghai and 1 case in Jiangsu).

On the same day, 70 newly discharged cases were cured, 1411 close contacts were released from medical observation, and 3 severe cases were reduced.

There are 734 confirmed cases introduced from overseas (including 37 severe cases) and 44 suspected cases. A total of 1183 confirmed cases were diagnosed, and 449 cases were discharged and no deaths were reported.

As of 12 am on 11 April 2020, according to the reports of 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, there were 1089 confirmed cases (141 severe cases), a total of 77525 cases were discharged, and 3339 cases of death. A total of 81,953 confirmed cases were reported, and 44 suspected cases are currently receiving attention. A total of 718050 close contacts have been tracked and 10435 close contacts are still under medical observation.

There are no newly confirmed cases in Hubei on Friday. 28 cases have been discharged (27 cases in Wuhan), 3 cases are deaths including 2 cases in Wuhan and 320 cases are confirmed (319 cases in Wuhan), including 95 severe cases (94 cases in Wuhan). A total of 64,264 discharged cases (47,112 in Wuhan) were cured, 3,219 deaths (2,577 in Wuhan), and 67,803 confirmed cases (50008 in Wuhan). There are no new suspected cases and no existing suspected cases.

31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 34 new cases of asymptomatic infections, including 7 cases of asymptomatic infections imported from abroad and 14 cases of confirmed cases from overseas. Under medical observation are 25 cases including 4 cases from overseas. 1092 cases of asymptomatic infection (338 cases imported from abroad) are still under medical observation.

Zhang Wenhong, the leader of the Shanghai Outbreak Medical Treatment Experts Group, Professor and the Head of the Center for Infectious Disease of Huashan Hospital of Shanghai Fudan University, comments that it there are no increases in the number of asymptomatic patients in mainland China in the next one month, the risk of asymptomatic patients can be whisked off.


Wenhong said that Wuhan is perhaps the "safest city in China now" as many people in the city may already have developed immune defenses against the virus but he stressed it is only an assumption.

A total of 24 asymptomatic patients have been reported on 8 April 2020 (Wednesday) in Hubei Province, which administrates Wuhan.

According to the Health Commission of Hubei Province, there are 17 new cases of asymptomatic infection in the province, 0 cases were diagnosed, 19 cases were released from isolation, and 673 cases of asymptomatic infections are still under medical observation as of 11 April 2020.
