The Office of the Director of the National Intelligence Agency (ODNI) issued a statement on Thursday (30 April 2020), saying that there is consensus agreement that SARS-CoV-2 is not artificial and  focuses on the investigations on whether the virus is due to the infection of animals or a Wuhan laboratory accident.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence today issued the following Intelligence Community (IC) statement:

“The entire Intelligence Community has been consistently providing critical support to U.S. policymakers and those responding to the COVID-19 virus, which originated in China. The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified.

“As we do in all crises, the Community’s experts respond by surging resources and producing critical intelligence on issues vital to U.S. national security. The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

A few days ago, the US media quoted an official US report that a number of public evidences had caused the US government to direct the source of the pandemic to the P4 laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Viology and the Wuhan Center for Disease Prevention and Control. US President Trump said that the United States has launched serious investigations into the origin of the virus and the CCP’s concealment of the epidemic in Wuhan. Secretary of State Pompeo has asked the CCP to open its doors for several days, and let foreign medical experts go to Wuhan to investigate the origin of the virus.

In the US political circles, some officials pointed directly at the CCP’s virus development from the CCP’s biological weapons, and some official agencies denied that the virus was artificial. The latter's position is accused of being somewhat related to the public opinion dumping campaign launched by the CCP.

After the CCP’s initial “theory of seafood market origins” went bankrupt, public opinion began to focus on the WIV. In order to shirk responsibility, the Chinese Communist Party began to manipulate public opinion at home and abroad, creating rumours that "viruses are US biological weapons against China." In the process of countering the CCP's online rumours, some US personnel stated that SARS-CoV-2 is not artificial, but stressed that this does not mean that the virus was not leaked from the laboratory.
