The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Health Commission issued a message that as of 16 April 2020, Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia has accumulated 74 covid cases from overseas in 10 days.

Manzhouli, located in the north of China, borders Russia in the north, borders Mongolia in the west, and has the largest land port in China-Manzhouli Port. It is an important hub on the Eurasian land route and an important fulcrum of the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor.

On 6 April 2020, Manzhouli detected the first confirmed cases from Russia. Within the next 10 days, the number of confirmed cases entered the country increased to 74, accounting for more than 60% of the confirmed cases imported from outside Inner Mongolia.

As the number of confirmed cases surged, the local Chinese-Mongolian Hospital in Manzhouli was converted into a designated admission hospital. Hulunbeier, Chifeng, Xing'an League and other places have successively dispatched a medical team of more than 100 people to support the local new coronary pneumonia medical treatment and flow sampling.

Manzhouli Frontline Headquarters said that in order to cope with the pressure of epidemic prevention brought by overseas imports, Manzhouli City built a standby hospital on the basis of the former Zhamei Company’s employee hospital. At present, the building of the standby hospital is about to be completed, and the standby hospital will be put into use after the completion of the first and second phases of the project.

In order to deal with the surge of medical waste, the Manzhouli Medical Waste Treatment Centrer has started a 24-hour working mode. The medical waste will be properly packaged and transported, and finally burned and destroyed to ensure that the medical waste produced is cleared as soon as possible.

The sudden entry of covid epidemic at the port brought great challenges to the port inspection and quarantine capabilities of this small border town and the isolation and detection capabilities of the Manzhouli urban area.

Manzhouli to Hou Baikalsk highway port passenger transport corridor was temporarily closed on April 8, and border trade continued. The staff are dressed in white protective clothing and are waiting to ensure the normal operation of the China-Europe train. The Manzhouli China-Russia Mutual Trade Free Zone is only open to Zone A, and no more than 100 people are allowed to enter each day, including merchants.

Manzhouli city government official stated that Manzhouli recreated the prevention and control process of inbound freight drivers under the guidance of experts. At present, immigration drivers have been taken measures such as immediate isolation and testing. During the operation, personnel of the two countries are not allowed to have direct contact.

After the import epidemic occurred, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hulunbeier City Guidance Team have successively rushed to Manzhouli to request the establishment of a multi-level and comprehensive chain of prevention and control from "national to home" to ensure that imported cases do not affect the normal lives of residents.
