Chinese Ambassador to France Lu Shaye was interviewed by French BFM TV station, RMC TV station and radio station on the 20 April 2020. He responded to China's covid epidemic data, virus source and other issues.

When asked about China's epidemic data, Lu Shaye claimed that China is transparent and the epidemic data is accurate. Last weekend, China revised the data on Wuhan ’s epidemic cases and deaths, which is the embodiment of information transparency.  He defended China. He said China has not concealed, and will never conceal anything. He pointed out that it is an international practice to revise the relevant data, and all countries including France may do so.

Lu Shaye pointed out that on 30 December 2019, the Wuhan Municipal Government announced the discovery of unexplained pneumonia cases. From 3 January this year, the World Health Organization regularly notified of the situation of this new infectious disease. On 12 January 2020, China sequenced the viral genome. The sequence was shared with WHO and other countries in the world, and on 23 January, China locked down Wuhan and Hubei. He claimed all countries knew what was happening in China, and China has nothing to hide.

Speaking of the laboratory in Wuhan, Lu Shaye said that there are two laboratories in Wuhan, one of which is the P4 laboratory established in cooperation with France. He said that the virus came from wild animals, but the virus is not necessarily related to the consumption of wild animals. Scientific research should yield some results, but no consensus has been reached to prove that the virus infection originates from eating wild animals.

In response to the question of whether the virus leaked from the laboratory, Lu Shaye said that this issue should be answered by scientists. This is a scientific problem and should be left to the scientists. According to the analysis of scientists, if the virus is leaked from the laboratory, it is possible that the the virus may leak from laboratories in China, France or the United States. He said that when it comes to laboratory research procedures, all laboratories have almost the same safety regulations. Why only mention China? He saw a statement from the French Presidential Palace, confirming that there was nothing wrong with the Wuhan P4 lab.

On French President Macron's position on China in an interview with The Financial Times, Lu Shaye believes that Macron's position was distorted by the media. Lu Shaye said that after reading the interview, he did not see that Macron wanted to blame China. Macron only said that countries with different systems could not be compared with each other. Because of different systems, a country cannot know everything that has happened in other countries.

When talking about Sino-French relations, Lu Shaye said that there is no crisis between China and France. Relations between the two countries have developed well, and leaders of both sides have maintained close communication.
