Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen delivered a speech in the presidential palace this morning. She apologized for the infection of covid among officers and soldiers of the Naval Dunmu warship, which caused the public to bear the risk of the epidemic.

She said that Defense Minister Yan Defa had asked her to punish him, and also listed four major deficiencies such as untrue internal notifications. This is just a preliminary. After the full investigation is clear, she will never protect her shortcomings.

She also emphasized that epidemic prevention and national security should not be overlooked. In the face of military operations in mainland China during the epidemic, the national army cannot be slack. Especially in the current situation in the Taiwan Strait, military actions on the other side are frequent. During all epidemics, it is necessary to maintain combat readiness in training, maintain normal combat strength and readiness.

Taiwan Navy’s Dunmu warship has been infected, and 27 people have been diagnosed, causing panic among the people. The Ministry of National Defense held a temporary press conference last night. Both Yan Defa and Navy Commander General Liu Zhibin asked for punishment, and Major General Chen Daohui, Commander of the Dunmu Fleet, and Lieutenant General Gao Jiabin, Commander of the Ship Command, were transferred from their current positions.

But the opposition Kuomintang questioned in the morning that Tsai Ing-wen, as the commander of the three armed forces, and even the decision-maker who decided to let the Dunmu warship depart, expressed “regret” at the first time, cleared the relationship, and asked Tsai to apologize openly and not take the Ministry of Defense shield.
