According to a research paper published by The New England Journal of Medicine, entitled "Aerosol and Surface Stability of SARS-CoV-2 as Compared with SARS-CoV-1", SARS-CoV-2 (covi, in short) can survive on plastics and stainless steel for three days. On cardboard it can survive for less than a day and on copper for four hours but half of the virus will lose function witin 46 minutes. However, according to reports in The New York Post, The Huffington Post UK and announced by NTD Television, covi can survive on soles of shoes for five days.

Georgine Nanos, a San Diego physician in the United States, said that shoes are likely to be one of the main transmission channels of viruses, because soles are the main breeding grounds for bacteria, fungi, and viruses. This statement is also supported by infectious disease scientist Mary E .Schmidt.

Schmidt said that covi can survive on the soles and synthetic fibers for five days, and it is the easiest to contact the virus in public areas such as buses and supermarkets.

Experts point out that most of the bacteria and viruses breed on the soles, and the aerosols formed by the gases exhaled by covid patients can keep the virus alive for three hours, and within these three hours, the virus is still extremely contagious. After stepping on it, the virus can extend its probability of survival and infectivity.

The Cleaning Guys, a home environmental cleaning company in Texas, has been specializing in the treatment of residual substances harmful to the human body in the environment since its establishment in 1992, such as chemical or radioactive materials left at the crime scene, or being hit by a hurricane and floods. The company said cleaning experts have a more important task, which is to disinfect the epidemic area.

McCallum, the president of The Cleaning Guys, told Financial News CNBC channel program "Make It", "We have dealt with at least 100 infected areas so far."

Based on experience, McCann recommends that people use ordinary hot soapy water when doing home cleaning, "This is enough to kill many viruses. The more complicated things I like, the simpler it is."

In addition, McCann said that bleach also has the same cleaning effect, but it must be noted that bleach can make the fabric fade in a short time. As for Lysol's cleaning disinfectant and wipes, he believes that hot water can be used to assist in disinfection and strengthen the cleaning effect.

McCann also pointed out several mistakes at home to avoid the spread of the virus. The biggest mistake is to enter the house and forget to take off the shoes. McCann said that wearing shoes will make it easier to bring the external germs home. So when anyone gets home, be sure to take off shoes.

McCann suggested that the average person can put a pot of diluted bleach at the door of their home and quickly soak the bottom of the shoes in bleach before entering home.

People should also change clothes immediately after returning home. Because viruses may contaminate fabrics, McCann also recommends that clothes worn out should be washed as soon as possible.

Finally, McCann echoed the public health officials' statement that he said that the best epidemic prevention method is washing hands thoroughly.
