Recently, Germany has relaxed border control measures, but a large meat processing plant in the northwest has a huge covid cluster infection. 657 people in the factory were diagnosed with the disease. Prime Minister Merkel announced that most large-scale domestic events will be banned until the end of October.

The meat slaughterhouse is located in the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrueck in North Rhine-Westphalia and is operated by the Tonnies Group.

The Tonnies Group has closed its slaughterhouse in Guetersloh. To prevent infection, the local government also closed schools and kindergartens. After the outbreak of mass infections, the government has banned the subcontracting of meat products through human agencies.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Angela Merkel said that in order to prevent a new wave of outbreaks, Germany banned the holding of most large-scale events by the end of October, and requested that the public still have to wear masks in shops and public transportation systems and maintain safe distancing but it is expected that schools will resume normal operations after the summer vacation.

Merkel emphasized, "As long as vaccines and drugs are not available, we must maintain basic measures to protect ourselves."

According to the statistics of Johns Hopkins University, as of 9.30 am on 18 June, a total of 186,604 cases were diagnosed in Germany, and 8,851 people died.
