On 15 June 2020, China CDC expert Wu Zunyou granted interviews from CCTV and People's Daily. The reporters sought his opinions on various issues surrounding the SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks in connection with Beijing Xinfadi Market including the lifespan of the coronavirus on cold surfaces and its origin.

CCTV News: Beijing has found newly confirmed cases, where is the source of infection? How to prevent and control? Come listen to the introduction of the disease control expert.
Reporter Jiang Shan from CCTV: We saw that the new cases in Beijing are all related to the market of new places. How can we determine where the source of infection is?
Wu Zunyou, chief expert in epidemiology of the China CDC: Beijing has had no local cases for nearly 60 days, and it should not have occurred naturally in Beijing. Then there are two possibilities for this input. One is that the contaminated items were brought to Beijing, and the other is the spread caused by infected people entering Beijing.
Jiang Shan : Is the frozen environment easier to the virus to survive because of its low temperature?
Wu Zunyou: When we collect biological samples containing viruses, these samples are stored in a low temperature environment. The lower the temperature, the longer the storage time. Like frozen foods, if contaminated, the virus can survive on these surfaces for 2 to 3 months.
Jiang Shan : So in the face of the new changes in the virus, do we have any new issues that require attention?
Wu Zunyou : Wearing masks, maintaining social distance, washing hands frequently, and ventilating are all very effective measures. I would like to clarify that it is not completely determined that it is food. It is only highly suspected that there is the greatest possibility of food contamination, but further investigation is required. Try not to buy imported agricultural products or frozen food as much as possible. They must be cooked and cannot be eaten raw. At the same time, when handling these raw foods, we must pay attention to hand hygiene. For vegetables, in general, it will not cause the problem of infection caused by pollution, because most vegetables are produced locally or in the surrounding areas.

In an exclusive interview with the People’s Daily on 15 June 2020, Wu Zunyou said that from the perspective of the composition of the virus, this virus is not like the strain of the case that appeared in Beijing two months ago, but more like Europe, but the European does not represent from European countries. The concept of Europe is extensive, including analysis with US virus strains, most of which are from Europe, and most of the cases in Russia are also from Europe. That is to say, the results of our laboratory tests show that the strains are from Europe and may be from European countries. The virus may also come from an American country or Russia, and further information needs to be collected to help judgement.
