As of  June 12, Chongqing’s four consecutive days of heavy rain or heavy rain caused all rivers in Chongqing to rise sharply, and some rivers exceeded the warning level. Chongqing has launched Level III emergency response for flood defense and launched a blue flood warning. The pressure on the Three Gorges Dam is increasing.

On June 12, Chongqing continued its fourth day of heavy rain or heavy rain, and many districts continued to issue red warning signals or yellow warning signals for rainstorms. The maximum daily rainfall exceeded 200 mm. Due to continuous heavy rain or heavy rain, the water levels of 47 rivers in Chongqing City and all surrounding rivers have skyrocketed by 1 to 8 meters, and some rivers have exceeded the warning level.

Many towns were flooded, and in some areas the accumulated water exceeded 2 meters, flooding many vehicles and flooding many houses. Disasters such as landslides and debris flows have also occurred in some areas. According to official media reports, one person has been killed, four are missing, and six have been injured.

On June 11, the Chongqing Municipal Hydrological Monitoring Station of the Communist Party of China launched the flood blue warning, while the Chongqing Municipal Flood Control Headquarters launched the flood response level Ⅲ emergency response, and the Chongqing Municipal Water Conservancy Bureau initiated the flood defense response level Ⅲ.

The following is a video released by netizens on June 11. The video shows that heavy rain fell in Kaizhou District of Chongqing, the road turned into a river, and vehicles were submerged. "The bridge closed the hole, the water overflowed the road, and the water flowed out of the house." The rain rolls down the street with mud and sand.

The Three Gorges Dam is located in the lower reaches of Chongqing, and all rivers in Chongqing will eventually flow to the Yangtze River. Therefore, the floods caused by the long-term heavy rain in Chongqing will greatly increase the pressure on the Three Gorges Dam.

According to official media reports, so far, 148 rivers across the country have been flooded with over-alert water levels; the No. 1 flood this year has occurred in the Xijiang and Beijiang Rivers in the Pearl River Basin, and floods have occurred in some areas.

There are currently more than 98,000 reservoirs in mainland China, of which more than 94,000 are small reservoirs. According to official media reports, many reservoirs have “disease risks” to varying degrees due to long-term lack of effective maintenance, and said this is “a weak link in flood control work and an outstanding shortcoming”. Once a reservoir dam breaks, it will cause a domino effect. It is possible to bring many dams downstream to break dams one after another, causing a major disaster.

Regarding the news of the Three Gorges Dam, the most recent is June 8, the Three Gorges Dam opened the floodgate ahead of schedule, and the total water level was about 30 meters, and the water level was reduced to 144.99 meters, due to the possibility of a larger flood peak. Later, the official did not release any updates about the Three Gorges Dam.
