Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center announced on 15 June 2020 that Taiwan has two imported covid cases. They are a man in his fifties (Case 444) and a woman in her forties (Case 445), a couple who worked in Bangladesh in late January and early March this year. They took a flight from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur on 12 June and returned from Kuala Lumpur to Taoyuan on a relief flight on 13 June.
Chen Shizhong the leader of the anti-epidemic command center said that while working in Bangladesh in Case 444 had fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches and abnormal taste on 23 May while Case 445 had fever on 25 May. They were hospitalized after diagnoses. Among them, Case 444 was asymptomatic on 26 May and the examinations on 28 May and 2 June were negative. Case 445 was tested negative on 2 June and the two did not go out after returning home on 2 June. The two were asymptomatic when they returned to Taiwan on 13 June because they proactively informed that they had been diagnosed in Bangladesh and were admitted to the quarantine office after arriving at Taoyuan Airport. Case 444 was tested positive and Case 445 was then tested negative. Their second tests proved them positive. Both were diagnosed with covid and are currently quarantined in a hospital.
The command center pointed out that case 444 and case 445 were both wearing masks and protective clothing when they returned to Taiwan by plane, and did not contact their relatives and friends after entering the country. There is a total of 37 passengers on the same flight including crew and two passengers in the front and back rows. Since both cases have worn protective equipment throughout the journey, 11 crew members are listed under autonomous health management observation, and 26 passengers in the front and rear rows are under home quarantine.
According to statistics from the command center, a total of 445 cases of covid have been diagnosed in Taiwan, with 354 overseas cases, 55 local cases, and 36 Dunmu fleet cases. Seven of the confirmed cases died, 433 were released from quarantine, and the rest are isolated in hospitals.
