A chicken farmer, AK Shihabudheen, in Malappuram, India, encountered a strange thing about nine months ago in 2019. The hens he raised actually hatch eggs with green egg yolks. When the chicks that hatched from these eggs grew up, some of them also produced green yolk eggs.

Comprehensive foreign media reports that Shihabudheen has been raising chickens for many years and has never seen eggs with green yolks. Originally, they thought that the eggs were broken, but after a closer inspection, they found that the appearance of this egg is not special, but it is a little smaller than the average egg. It did not smell strange, and it was not until these hens gave birth to several eggs that had green yolks that he raised suspicions. At that time he did not confirm that these hens would actually produce green yolks.

Shihabudheen and his family did not dare to eat green yolk eggs but these chickens are all normal and eat the same feed as the other chickens he raises.

Out of curiosity, Shihabudheen's family fried these eggs to eat. Although the fried poached eggs looked strange, the taste is exactly the same as other eggs, and there is no difference.

He also tried to incubate these eggs. As a result, six chicks were successfully hatched. Surprisingly, some of the eggs produced by these chicks have also green yolks.

Shihabudheen mentioned this matter with his friends, but could not discuss the reason. So he decided to post the matter online to seek answers. He shared the photos and short videos of these green yolk eggs on Facebook in May 2020. His post attracted many people's attention. People from all walks of life have sent him private messages, hoping to get green  yolk eggs for new experiments. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) scientists also came to him. They hoped to conduct research to solve the mystery of green egg yolk.

Shihabudheen said that many people want to buy green yolk eggs from him, and he also plans to raise more hens to sell more eggs. Scientists at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University have begun research on special hens and eggs. He will wait for the research results to come out before selling them.

Research is currently ongoing but scientists initially speculate that these hens lay green yolk eggs, which are likely related to the feed being fed. However, Shihabudheen said that the chickens he raised were all fed normal feed, including rice and coconut fritters. Sometimes they fed the chickens with leftover food at home.
