The Slovenian authorities announced the "end" of the covid epidemic in its territory on 14 May 2020. Prime Minister Janez Jansa also pointed out that Slovenia is now the country with the best conditions in Europe. According to official sources, after the number of newly diagnosed persons is less than 7 per day for two consecutive weeks, the number of confirmed cases of covid has so far been 1,464 and 103 deaths.
According to a report by the Central News Agency, in Slovenia, there have been fewer than 7 newly diagnosed cases per day in the past two weeks with a total of 35 new cases during the last two weeks. Therefore, the government announced on Thursday evening that the covid epidemic in Slovenia has "officially ended", becoming the first European country to announce the outbreak has eased.
The report said that as the epidemic eased, the Slovenian government first restored the mass transit system this week. It is expected that the campus will be opened next week so that some students can go back to class. All bars, restaurants and hotels with less than 30 rooms will resume business.
The end of the epidemic means that some measures will expire at the end of May, including the provision of financial assistance to citizens and businesses affected by the epidemic.
Prime Minister Jansa told Congress earlier on Thursday, "In the past two months, Slovenia has suppressed the epidemic ... Now Slovenia is the best country in Europe."
The Slovenian government said it will still not allow symptomatic foreign citizens to enter the country; people entering from non-EU countries must still be isolated for at least 14 days, and diplomats and freight forwarders have immunity. In addition to this, the public must abide by the basic epidemic prevention guidelines to prevent the virus from spreading again.
The Slovenian government said in a statement that people entering Slovenia from other EU countries will no longer be forced to segregate for at least 7 days.
According to reports, on 5 March 2020, the National Institute of Public Health, the Ministry of Health of Slovenia, confirmed on the official website that the first confirmed covid case occurred in this country. This patient departed from Morocco, transit in Italy before arriving in the capital Ljubljana diagnosed positive with covid. He was quarantined in a local hospital.
As the epidemic heats up, on 10 March 2020, the Slovenian government announced that it would close the border with Italy, which was the hardest hit region in Europe. In mid-March, all non-essential commercial premises, schools and other public facilities in the country were closed.
On 21 April 2020, Taiwan launched the second wave of foreign aid mask donation operations, of which 150,000 pieces arrived in Slovenia. Stanislav Lotric, Deputy Director of the Slovenian Civil Defence and Disaster Relief Agency, said at the donation ceremony that Slovenia has an urgent need for epidemic prevention materials, and thanks Taiwan for donating masks.
Shi Yaping, the representative of Taiwan in Austria who presented masks on behalf of Taiwan, pointed out that at the moment when covid was raging, Taiwan, as a member of the international community, was willing to assist medical staff in Slovenia. She said that in addition to donating masks, Taiwan is also willing to share anti-epidemic experience with Slovenia and cooperate in the development of testing reagents and vaccines.
