The Communist Party of China passed the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law on 28 May 2020, and Hong Kong will no longer have "one country, two systems." The Taiwan Parliament on 29 May 2020 established the "Taiwan Parliament Group for Hong Kong / Taiwan Congress and Hong Kong Friendship Link". Nearly 50 cross-party legislators joined in the joint declaration. In addition to condemning the CCP, they also announced that Taiwan will take concrete actions to support Hong Kong. Lin Changzuo, chairman of the Taiwan-Hong Kong Connection and a non-party legislator, said that the CCP’s totalitarian arbitrariness has promoted Taiwan’s cross-party unity in support of Hong Kong’s democracy, freedom, and human rights. Taiwanese have learned a valuable lesson, and they also understand the nature of deception and violence in "one country, two systems."

In a speech, Lin Changzuo, the president of the friendly connection, said that in the face of totalitarian CCP, Taiwan has always firmly supported Hong Kong, and non-governmental organizations have maintained close contact and cooperation with relevant government departments.

Lin Changzuo said, "Freedom and openness are not just the spirit of Hong Kong. Its autonomy and development are more important to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. However, since the return of Hong Kong in 1997, its autonomy, human rights and freedom have been continuously suppressed by the CCP. It has only been 23 years since the reunification, and the 50-year unchanging promise has been trampled by the CCP before more than half."

Changzuo added, "This is a very critical moment. Not only the people of Hong Kong are united, but the people of Taiwan should also unite and support Hong Kong together. The people of Taiwan not only unite with themselves, but also stand with the world and support Hong Kong together. "

Hong Shenhan, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan Congress’s Hong Kong Friendly Connection and legislator, also said that if he does not stand up at this time, it will be difficult to resist the expansion of the CCP ’s authority in the world.

Qiu Cuizheng, Deputy Chairman of the VIP Mainland Affairs Committee, said that the passage of the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" once again reminded the Taiwanese people of the true nature of "one country, two systems." He also mentioned that President Tsai Ing-wen has instructed the Executive Yuan to set up a special task force to deal with the actual rescue operations of Hong Kong residents such as residence, resettlement and care. The MAC is also conducting cross-ministerial coordination. Qiu Cuizheng emphasized that Taiwan will do its utmost to stand with Hong Kong.

Kuma, a youth representative from the border town of Hong Kong, said that the Hong Kong people ’s will will be stronger and firmer and continue to take to the streets for the CCP ’s enforcement of the National Security Law and National Anthem Law. Kuma suggested that the Taiwanese government should carefully use Article 60 of the Hong Kong and Macau Regulations and related provisions to establish friendly relations with Hong Kong's civil society, and at the same time consider the situation after the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" and expand the object and scope of the humanitarian assistance action plan.

Kuma also said that in response to the CCP’s ruling tool in Hong Kong, it should cancel its special treatment and actively discuss prevention measures. Taiwan and Hong Kong are at the forefront of the global strategic alliance for resistance, and they are always under pressure from the CCP’s centralization. He also emphasized that it is now "Hong Kong Today, Taiwan Today". Taiwan and Hong Kong must stand together and face the totalitarianism of the CCP.

The Legislative Yuan ’s Secretary-General Lin Zhijia said, "If the world ’s response to the CCP ’s totalitarian expansion is negative and weak, then the next victim must be Taiwan, so Taiwan must do a specific response and specific action against Hong Kong’s affairs. "
